Nationals' Rubisch Wins NLL Defensive Player of the YearMay 1, 2013 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL) - Hamilton Nationals Press Release
The Brampton, Ontario native played for the Nationals in 2011 and helped the team reach the MLL Finals. After forgoing the 2012 campaign, the defenseman returns for his second season in the MLL in 2013. When he last played, he appeared in 11 of the team's 12 games and collected 23 ground balls in 2011. The Dowling College product was the first-overall pick in the 2011 Major League Lacrosse Supplemental Draft.
Over the past two indoor seasons, Rubisch has been one of the NLL's most dominating defensemen. Today, he was named the NLL Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight season. Playing for the Edmonton Rush, he led all defensemen with 128 loose balls and broke the league's single-season forced turnover record with 44. He also notched 11 points (3+8) and anchored a defense that allowed the second-fewest goals in the league.
Rubisch is expected to rejoin Hamilton in two weeks, following Edmonton's exit from the NLL Playoffs. Rubisch was one of eight NLL players added to the Nationals' roster this week. Hamilton opens the 2013 season against the Boston Cannons Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. Fans can watch the game live on ESPN3.
