Professional Arena Soccer League Coming to Laredo Energy Arena

April 19, 2013 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) News Release

The Professional Arena Soccer League is coming to Laredo. With the unanimous approval of the PASL Board, Laredo Indoor Soccer, which is also the management group of the Laredo Rattlesnakes LSFL indoor football team, will operate an expansion team for the 2013-14 season beginning this November. The new team will play at Laredo Energy Arena.

Laredo Indoor Soccer held a press conference on Thursday at the arena. Among the speakers were Laredo Indoor Soccer General Manager Lewis Wagner, Laredo Energy Arena GM Xavier Villalon, and Laredo Mayor Raul Salinas.

The PASL plays a 16-game season with eight home and eight road games. The season runs from November to March and the league's just-completed fifth season featured 19 teams across the country from Harrisburg to San Diego. Dallas, Beaumont, and Rio Grande Valley each represented Texas in the PASL last season.

Arena soccer, also known as indoor soccer and futbol rapido (sometimes shortened to futrap), is played within the confines of a hockey rink with boards and artificial turf. Like hockey, arena soccer is six-a-side with penalties and power plays. PASL games have averaged 15 goals per game and teams frequently reach double digits in goals.

The Laredo Rattlesnakes play in the Lone Star Football League which occupies Laredo Energy Arena from March through June, opposite of the PASL schedule.

Laredo Energy Arena opened in 2002 and seats 8,065 for hockey and arena soccer.

"We're thrilled to be working with the Laredo Rattlesnakes and the perfect venue in Laredo Energy Arena," said PASL Commissioner Kevin Milliken. "This is a market that has been coveted for a number of years."

The organization has launched a name-the-team contest on its Facebook page Laredo Indoor Soccer.
