Vancouver, Wash. - The International Basketball League has announced the addition of Tommy Nunez, Jr. as the league's new Director of Officials.

A native of Phoenix, Ariz., Nunez joins the IBL front office team with an impressive resume which includes experience from high school to the pros.

Nunez started his officiating career in the 1980's in Arizona's high school ranks before moving on to officiate NCAA games in the Pac-10, West Coast and Big Sky conferences as well as NCAA tournament games. He returned as an NCAA official this year in Las Vegas at the Pac-12 tournament.

In addition, Nunez worked numerous Continental Basketball Association (CBA), NBA Development League (D-League) and Women`s National Basketball Association (WNBA) games from 1999 to 2004. He is slated to return to the court for the 2013 WNBA season this summer.

Nunez experience has taken him all the way to the NBA, officiating in over 200 league games from 2004 to 2012, including the 2007 NBA All-Star Game Rookie Challenge.

"I am looking forward to the opportunity presented by the IBL. After officiating at various levels and with some excellent mentors, I am excited to share the knowledge I've gained. Working with advice from others, including George Toliver, Director of Referee Development of the D-League, I am hoping to create a excellent staff through a strong training and development program," Nunez shared about becoming the Director of Officials with the IBL.

With the IBL, Nunez will oversee the development, scheduling and evaluation of the league's on-court officials as well as leading officiating at the IBL Playoffs in early July.

"We are privileged to have such an experienced official with success from college to the NBA leading us. With our mix of athletes in our late spring to summer season of play we attract former NBA players,to those who have just completed their season with the D-League, returnees from overseas to those straight out of college, which makes the game management by our officials key. The example, influence and direction especially within training and development for IBL officials has been upgraded with the addition of Nunez," IBL Commissioner Graf stated.

On Sunday, April 7 Nunez and the IBL will host a training session and camp for current and prospective IBL officials in Seattle, in conjunction with the league's tryout camp for players for all IBL teams.

Experienced basketball officials interested in joining the IBL can sign up for the officials training session at www.ibl.com/officials_tryouts.
