Henifin Signs with Australia's Brisbane SpartansFebruary 19, 2013 - International Basketball League (IBL) - Bellingham Slam Press Release
The 6-foot-5 Bellingham native has signed with the Brisbane Spartans, which competes as a member of the South East Australia Basketball League.
Henifin is the second Slam player to sign with an Australian team recently, after forward Michael Duty signed with the Mackay Meteors of the Queensland Basketball League last week.
Henifin was a two-time champion in 2012, capturing the NCAA Division-II National Championship as a senior for the Vikings last March, and followed that with an IBL Championship in his rookie season with the Slam in July.
This will be Henifin's second foray into overseas basketball after playing in Romania last fall. He averaged 11.9 points and 4.5 rebounds per contest for the Perla Harghitei Basketball Club before leaving the team in December.
Henifin appeared in 17 games for the Slam last season, starting nine, and averaged 9.7 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. He twice scored a season-high of 19 points and posted consecutive double-doubles in games against Olympia Reign and Japan Tornadoes last May.
For the Vikings, Henifin averaged 10.1 points and 5.3 rebounds as a senior, scoring in double figures in 22 games. He was instrumental in helping earn the Vikings' first men's national championship and was named to the NCAA West Regional all-tournament team after averaging 10.3 points and 8 rebounds in WWU's three regional tournament games.
Born and raised in Bellingham, Henifin starred for the Red Raiders at Bellingham High School before enrolling at Whatcom Community College. He suited up for the Orcas for two seasons before transferring to WWU.
"I'm very excited for this new opportunity," commented Henifin. "Australia is an amazing place and I can't wait to get there."
