Anaheim Bolts News Release

ANAHEIM, Calif. - The Anaheim Bolts made a statement on Thursday night by defeating the visiting Mexico Toros 12-8 for a convincing victory that sees Head Coach Jeff Tackett's side right back in the hunt for a PASL postseason berth. In a match full of spectacular goals, Anaheim attacker Oscar Reyes turned in a breakout performance highlighted by a quartet of strikes.

It was attacking fireworks from the Bolts in the opening quarter, as the home side quickly jumped out to a commanding 4-0 lead behind a pair of braces by Oscar Reyes and Brazilian star striker Adriano de Lima. Mike Greer and Zach Bautista also found the net for the hosts and Manuel Rosales tallied for Mexico at the other end.

Three of Anaheim 's goals in the first period were of the spectacular kind. First De Lima was set up by Miguel Sanchez on a textbook counter-attack, then he scored on a beautiful chip over onrushing netminder Maico Jackson Lopez. Finally, Greer finished off a nice combination play with Sanchez by beautifully bringing the ball down inside the area and touching it around the Toros backstop for a well-worked tally.

With the Bolts ahead 6-1, the pace of the match slowed down a bit in the second quarter, each side finding the net twice. The quartet of goals included a couple of spectacular strikes by the home team. After Guillermo Gonzalez and Ernesto Luna fired home for two unanswered Mexico goals, the Bolts returned the favor in the form of Jhonatan Bravo's powerful right-footed blast off the inside of the far post and Jose Gomez' spectacular long-distance effort that seemed to defy physics as it dipped into the net via the underside of the crossbar.

Having taken an 8-3 lead into halftime, Anaheim won the third quarter by a one-goal margin for an 11-5 overall advantage. Reyes struck twice and Orlando Alcaraz added a tally for the hosts, while the Toros' Alexander Caceras and Guillermo Rodriguez found the net at the other end.

The visitors from Mexico showed impressive fighting spirit after seeing a red card issued to their own Ernesto Luna and subsequently conceding the closing period's first goal. After fired home for the Bolts, the increasingly chippy affair saw the visitors add to the intensity with three unanswered strikes, San Diego native and 2012 Chivas USA up-and-comer Cesar Romero bagging a brace and Caceras also adding a second to his total. However, in the end it was too little too late for Head Coach Joe Pollard's men, as the hosts held on for a well-deserved victory.

Anaheim returns to action in its crucial home clash with the Tacoma Stars on January 5, 2013 .
