Professional Arena Soccer League Update

November 27, 2012 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) News Release

Sockers Break One Record, Chiles Just Misses Another

11/27/12 - The San Diego Sockers took care of business on Saturday, rolling over the Mexico Toros 14-4 to secure a new US Team Sports record by winning their 41st straight game. The Sockers also set a PASL-era personal best for attendance as 4,134 were on hand at the Valley View Casino Center to witness history in the making.

Kraig Chiles fell one short of tying a PASL record by scoring eight goals. He had the ninth queued up, but the shot hit the crossbar and bounced just shy of the goal line.

The Sockers winning streak drew national attention from outlets such as NBCSports.com, ESPN, and the AP Wire. The old record of 40 straight wins was held by indoor football's SIoux Falls Storm.

Player of the Week

Kraig Chiles, San Diego Sockers

The two-time reigning PASL MVP has been all over the scoresheet, but had been shut out of the Player of the Week award the first three weeks. His six goal game last week didn't earn him honors, but his eight goal game against Mexico was impossible to ignore. Chiles is on pace to break his own PASL record for goals (46) and Bernie Lilavois' point record (68). In just four games Chiles has 19 goals and 22 points.

Sockers Streaks at 28, 41

San Diego's regular season winning streak stands at 28. San Diego is also an all-time 27-0 at home during the regular season. Including playoffs, US Open games, and the FIFRA Club Championships, the Sockers have won 41 in a row, surpassing the US Pro Team Sports record of 40 set by the indoor football Sioux Falls Storm in 2008.

I-90 Rivalry Off to Dramatic Start

The Chicago Mustangs and Rockford Rampage squared off for the first time Saturday and it was a doozy. The teams traded leads throughout the second half, but Rockford's Admir Ljeljak secured the victory with a shorthanded chip shot from midfield with 11 seconds left. The game winning goal gave the Rampage a 7-6 win in their home opener.

MVP Connection

The Sockers two PASL MVPs, Kraig Chiles and Brian Farber, have both been producing at a record pace through the first quarter of the season. Chiles leads the league with 22 points while Farber is right behind at 20 points. The two have combined to score 27 goals, which is more than the entire goal total of 12 other teams in the league.
