Anaheim Bolts News Release
ANAHEIM, Calif. - The Anaheim Bolts started out their season on the right track on Friday night, as they defeated expansion franchise Sacramento Surge 12-5. Several players had standout showings for the home side, most notably veteran attacker Adriano de Lima and debutant Diego Barrera, who each found the net three times for Orange County's professional indoor soccer team.
While the opening quarter saw the Bolts with more of the possession, the defense was surprised on several occasions by Sacramento 's dangerous counter-attacks, the best-executed of which saw Ecuadorian Jorge Fernandez find the net and the Surge come from behind for a 2-1 lead. Diego Barrera had given Anaheim the early advantage, followed by an Ato Leone equalizer.
The Bolts came out on fire in the second quarter, which they won 5-2 for a 6-4 overall lead. The home side scored twice in powerplay situations, one of the tallies coming from Barrera, who would later add his third of the night. Jose Mendez and Patricio Tenorio found the net for the visitors from Northern California .
The period's two best goals were scored by Anaheim 's De Lima and Garr Persson. After De Lima had given his side a 3-2 lead with a beautiful chip over goalkeeper Max Herrera, Persson fired a rocket under the crossbar to tie things up at 4-4. Hugo Casillas also found the net for Anaheim .
Entering the third quarter ahead 6-4, the Bolts picked up right where they had left off, as a 5-1 run saw them jump out to an 11-5 overall lead. In addition to two tallies from forward Luis Gonzalez, who created one of the contest's most memorable moments when flicking the ball to himself and blasting a left-footed volley into the upper ninety, the fans at Anaheim's Convention Center Arena also saw goals by Jhonatan Bravo, Danny Barrera and De Lima. Juan Fresquez had Sacramento 's only strike of the period, which finished on three unanswered Bolts tallies.
Casillas and De Lima added goals in the fourth quarter to round out the 13-5 score line and send Bolts fans home with smiles on their faces.
Head Coach Bernie Lilavois and his men hope to build on the victory when they travel to take on another PASL expansion franchise in the Las Vegas Legends this coming Sunday. Meanwhile, Sacramento hopes to bounce back in tomorrow's road clash with defending champion San Diego Sockers.
The Bolts' next home game is on December 9 against Turlock Express. Tickets for the 4 p.m. PT clash start at $12 and may be purchased through Ticketmaster or the Anaheim Convention Center Arena box office.
