Yankees First Baseman Mark Teixeira Joins Arizona Fall League Hall of Fame

November 2, 2012 - Arizona Fall League (AzFL)

Phoenix, Arizona - New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira, a member of the 2002 Peoria Javelinas, joins the Arizona Fall League Hall of Fame tonight in pre-game ceremonies at Scottsdale Stadium (Rafters vs. Scorpions).

"Mark has been a remarkably consistent professional throughout his standout career," says Fall League Director Steve Cobb.

Teixeria's consistency includes 2 All-Star Games, 5 Gold Gloves, 3 Silver Slugger awards and a World Series championship right with the 2009 Yankees.

He has homered from both sides of the plate in the same game 13 times, the MLB record.

The fastest switch-hitter to 300 home runs in major-league history, Teixeria is also the first switch-hitter with 20 home runs in each of his first 11 major-league seasons. He was the only major leaguer to reach 30 home runs and 100 RBI for eight consecutive seasons from 2004-11.

Defensively, Teixeria is the American League career fielding percentage leader among first basemen (minimum 1000 games). He won his fifth Gold Glove earlier this week.

He also participated in the 2005 All-Star Game Home Run Derby.

In his 1497-game major-league career that began in 2003, the 32-year-old Annapolis, MD native has hit .279 with 338 home runs and 1101 RBI with the Rangers (2003-07), Braves (2007-08), Angels (2008) and Yankees (2009-present).

He has led the American League in home runs (39 in 2009), RBI (122 in 2009), runs (113 in 2010), total bases (370 in 2005, 344 in 2009), and games played (162 in 2005-06).

Arizona Fall League Hall of Fame - The Arizona Fall League, founded in 1992, formed its Hall of Fame in 2001 to honor the top major-league players and managers who honed their skills in the AFL. The selection committee, chaired by baseball ambassador Roland Hemond, the "Architect of the Arizona Fall League," bases its appointments upon individual achievement at the major-league level since participating in the Arizona Fall League.
