Talons Hold Top Spot in Final Power Rankings

CHICAGO - The San Antonio Talons (14-3) clinched the number one seed in the National Conference and the top spot for the second consecutive week in the final AFL Power Rankings of the 2012 regular season.
San Antonio held off the Arizona Rattlers (12-5), 62-61, in a Friday night thriller to lock down the top seed and ensure that the playoffs run through the Alamodome. The League office announced last week that the Talons' opening round playoff game will be NFL Network's "NET10 Arena Football Friday" broadcast on Friday, July 27.
A bye week did not hurt the Philadelphia Soul (14-3) who will host the red-hot Utah Blaze (12-5) in Week 20. The Blaze remained in the three spot of the Power Rankings following another record-breaking performance by quarterback Tommy Grady, who tied the single-game AFL record for passing touchdowns with 12 in Week 19.
The San Jose SaberCats (12-6) finished their regular season by defeating the Iowa Barnstormers (6-11) at home. Despite a bye in Week 20, San Jose could still win the West Division with losses by Utah and Arizona in Week 19. The SaberCats clinched a playoff berth in Week 18.
After suffering their second consecutive loss, the Rattlers fell to the five spot in the AFL Power Rankings. Arizona takes on the Kansas City Command (3-14) in Week 20. A win coupled with a Utah loss would give the Rattlers the West Division championship. A loss would drop the squad down to the number four seed in the National Conference and send the Rattlers to San Antonio for a rubber match with the Talons on NFL Network.
The AFL Power Rankings are calculated on AFLFieldPass.com using vPower(tm), a scoring system based on winning percentage, strength of schedule, scoring percentage, and win-streak. The scale is normalized from 0 (lowest) to 100 (highest).
