37 Arizona Fall Leaguers Named MLB All-Stars

Phoenix, Arizona - Thirty-seven former Arizona Fall League players have been named to the American League and National League squads for Major League Baseball's 2012 All-Star Game at Kansas City on Tuesday night, July 10.

The Arizona Fall League now boasts 182 different players who have earned roster spots in MLB's annual All-Star Game since the Arizona Fall League's inaugural season in 1992.

Over the past six years, the Arizona Fall League has averaged 37 all-stars per season.

Eighteen former Fall Leaguers were named to this year's American League roster, including four original starters - first baseman Prince Fielder (Tigers), outfielder Curtis Granderson (Yankees), outfielder Josh Hamilton (Rangers) shortstop Derek Jeter (Yankees), and catcher Mike Napoli (Rangers).

The National League roster includes 20 ex-AFLers, including four original starters - outfielder Matt Kemp (Dodgers), catcher Buster Posey (Giants), second baseman Dan Uggla and first baseman Joey Votto and.

Seventy percent of players listed on the MLB fan ballot for the 2012 All-Star Game are former Arizona Fall League players.

Also, four of the six umpires assigned to work this year's All-Star Game include the Arizona Fall League on their resumes. They are Brian Runge (second base), Tony Randazzo (third base), Lance Barksdale (left field) and Brian Knight (right field).

The complete list of 2012 MLB all-stars who played in the Arizona Fall League, including 13 first-timers, follows. Outfielders Bryce Harper (Nationals) and Mike Trout (Angels) played in the 2011 Fall League.

Sirius/XM Futures Game - Fourteen former Arizona Fall Leaguers were selected to play in the 2012 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game at Kansas City on Sunday, July 8.

Nine players on the Team USA roster were IF Nolan Arenado (Rockies/2011 Fall League MVP), C Rob Brantly (Tigers), OF Michael Choice (Athletics), RHP Gerrit Cole (Pirates), IF Scooter Gennett (Brewers), OF Anthony Gose (Blue Jays), LHP Danny Hultzen (Mariners), OF Wil Myers (Royals) and 3B Mike Olt (Rangers).

The World Team roster included five former Arizona Fall Leaguers - IF Jesus Aguilar (Indians), C Christian Bethancourt (Braves), IF Jean Segura (Angels) and OF Oscar Taveras (Cardinals). The fifth selectee, C Yasmani Grandal (Padres), was promoted.
