Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - There's nothing "soft" about the non-stop action of the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF), which will be making a stop at Fluor Field on Thursday, July 12th and Friday, July 13th. The Carolina Diamonds, based out of Charlotte, will take on the Akron Racers, with first pitch for both days set for 7:05 PM.
Drive Co-Owner and President Craig Brown commented on the games, saying, "Just like the Drive, the National Pro Fastpitch is intended to provide family-friendly, affordable entertainment to fans of all ages. From seventy-mile per hour riseballs and 240-foot frozen ropes, the competition is exciting, featuring some of the nation's former top collegiate athletes. We look forward to welcoming the Diamonds and Racers to Downtown Greenville and Fluor Field on Thursday and Friday."
The Diamonds, which are new to the NPF for the 2012 season, join the Racers, Chicago Bandits and USSSA Pride in women's professional fastpitch softball competition. The Diamonds have a power-packed lineup, including two University of North Carolina alums - Brittany McKinney and Danielle Spaulding. Spaulding is one of the most decorated alums in the school's softball history books. She was the first three-time NFCA All-American in UNC history and also claimed three individual ACC league awards, including ACC Player of the year in 2008 and 2009.
McKinney was a solid starter for the team in all four years of her collegiate career and served as catcher to pitcher Spaulding. Owning one of the top-ten UNC softball records for highest number of home runs with 20, McKinney is also solid in the field with one of the highest career fielding percentages in her alma mater's history. Both women are eager to return to their collegiate roots to play.
The Diamonds also feature former University of Alabama standout Amanda Locke, who recently guided the Crimson Tide to the 2012 Women's College World Series National Championship, en route to being named to the All-Tournament Team and All-American First Team honors.
"The Diamonds are anxiously awaiting to play at Fluor Field, one of the nicest ballparks in the country," added Alan Demaske, Owner of the Carolina Diamonds. "Our team has many recognizable athletes, who look forward to showcasing their talents to the Upstate fan base."
Tickets to either game at Fluor Field range from just $7 to $15, and can be purchased by logging onto GreenvilleDrive.com, or by calling the Fluor Field Box Office at (864) 240-4528.
