SAINT PAUL, Minn. - The National Lacrosse League's (NLL) Minnesota Swarm and MidCountry Bank have teamed up to host a youth lacrosse clinic on Friday, March 30 on Treasure Island Field at Xcel Energy Center. The clinic will take place from 4 to 5 p.m. prior to the Swarm's home contest against the Calgary Roughnecks at 7:30 p.m.
The clinic is part of the Swarm's Native American initiative, which is an effort to help restore the tradition and heritage of lacrosse to Minnesota's tribal communities. Over 30 kids from the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwa will make the two-hour drive to the Twin Cities to attend the clinic. Students from the St. Paul American Indian Magnet School (Ho-Chunk Nation) as well as kids from other Minnesota tribal communities will also be present for the hour-long clinic. In addition, MidCountry Bank is hosting a financial educational session for parents and youth afterward.
"We're proud to partner with MidCountry Bank for this youth lacrosse clinic," said Andy Arlotta, Co-Owner and Vice President for the Minnesota Swarm. "It's exciting to bring this kind of long-lasting value and educational experience to these kids. We're looking forward to growing from our first clinic and making this an annual experience."
Friday's clinic will feature coaching from Swarm forward Corbyn Tao, assistant coach Aime Caines as well as the Swarm's Native American Lacrosse Coordinator Brian Kimmell and Youth Lacrosse Coordinator Mo Gaitan.
"We are very excited to partner with the Swarm for the Native American lacrosse clinic, where after the event MidCountry Bank will provide a "financial clinic" to attendees, presented by banking professionals," said Robin Roberts, Senior Vice President for MidCountry Bank. "MidCountry team members are proud to teach, build and assist neighbors. The Swarm's Native American event is a perfect fit for us and the characteristics for which our company was built: local community spirit, and our core values of integrity, honesty, fairness, compassion and excellence."
