North American League to Host Second Annual All-Independent League TryoutFebruary 7, 2012 - North American League (NAL) Press Release
The North American League announced today an all professional leagues open tryout for free agents and aspiring professional baseball players. The North American League will host the tryouts that will take place in Pasadena, CA.
In addition to the North American League, whose teams employ over 400 professional baseball players collectively, all independent teams in the U.S. have been invited to attend as well as draft and sign players. Also, the Japanese independent leagues, the Mexican minor leagues, and European leagues have all received credentials to participate and area scouts from all MLB teams and the Major League Scouting Bureau have also been provided credentials.
Last year, the same tryout event saw 22 players walk away with professional contracts, including right handed pitcher Michael Olmsted who received an offer from the Boston Red Sox after impressing VP of Player Personnel Allard Baird, who attended the tryout expecting to see elite players. In addition to the Red Sox, several MLB teams sent area scouts and professional scouts to attend. This year, the North American League expects to have an equally impressive turn out of MLB scouts and independent league managers.
The tryout will be held on April 22nd 2012, with players offered contracts at the conclusion of the day. Major league teams that have requested participation by their scouting organizations are able to sign players at any time during the tryout.
