Edmonton Rush News Release
Edmonton, AB--- The National Lacrosse League today announced Rush defender Kyle Rubish has been selected to start for the West in the 2012 NLL All-Star Game on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. EST at First Niagara Center.
Kyle Rubish has now made the All-Star team in both of his first two seasons in the league.
Rubish, the 23-year-old from Brampton, Ont., has quickly become an elite rearguard in the National Lacrosse League and excelled at international play as well, with his style that includes a big-bodied D-man who can scoop loose balls and move the ball up in transition.
The Rush acquired the six-foot-one, 215-pounder through the Boston Blazer dispersal draft. Rubish comes off a stellar rookie 2011 campaign by scooping 143 loose balls and an NLL All-Rookie team. He currently leads the team in 2012 with 28 loose balls.
His 2011 season included him earning a spot on the Canadian national team -- that grabbed gold at the World Indoor Lacrosse Championship in Prague, Czech Republic, where he was named to the Tournament All-Star Team - and was teammates with current Rush players Brett Mydske and Chris Corbeil.
Online fan balloting that helped select the starting lineups concluded this past weekend. The fan votes were combined with the votes of the league's General Managers & Head Coaches, as well as the league's covering media, to select the starters. Each group's votes counted for one-third of the total.
Reserves for the East and West teams will be announced by the league later this week.
Tickets for the All-Star Game, which will take place in Buffalo for the first time in NLL history, may be purchased by calling call 1-888-467-2273.
The Rush will meet the divisional Minnesota Swarm at Excel Energy Centre on Friday, February 10. Fans can watch the action at www.nll.com on Livestream.
The Rush returns home to action on Friday, February 24 to face former team captain Brodie Merrill now with the Philadelphia Wings. Face off at 7:00 p.m.
