
Ohio Machine Drafts 2011 Tewaaraton Trophy Winner

COLUMBUS, Ohio (January 17, 2012) - The Ohio Machine (Machine), which begins its inaugural season in Major League Lacrosse (MLL) on May 5, drafted 2011 Tewaaraton Trophy winner and attackman Steele Stanwick, as well as eight additional players, during the 2012 MLL Collegiate Draft.
The Machine drafted Stanwick with its first pick (2nd overall), followed by midfielder Robert Rotanz with its second pick (8th overall). The Machine also drafted attackmen Billy Eisenreich, Alex Demopoulos and Delaware, OH native Austin Bright, and midfielders Bobby Eilers, Anthony Biscardi, Chris Langton and Dublin, OH native Marshall Burkhart. All college players drafted in the 2012 MLL Collegiate Draft will be eligible to play in MLL after the close of the 2012 NCAA season.
Stanwick currently plays for University of Virginia, where he has played for the past three seasons, including UVA's 2011 NCAA Championship season. Stanwick began his college tenure in 2009, where he was named 2009 ACC Rookie of the Year. In 2010, Stanwick was named USILA Second Team All-American, All-ACC, All-ACC Tournament and All-NCAA Championship Team. Last season, Stanwick was the recipient of the prestigious Tewaaraton Trophy and named UVA Team Captain, USILA First Team All-American, All-NCAA Championship Team, ACC Player of the Year and All-ACC. He finished the 2011 season ranked third in the nation in assists per game and fourth in points per game.
"With Steele Stanwick, we wanted an attackman who could be a leader on the field and be the quarterback for the team," said Head Coach Ted Garber. "Our guys will be excited to play with him and I believe he will be an impact player right away for us."
Rotanz, playing for Duke University, enters into his senior year with 57 games played for the Blue Devils, scoring 38 goals and recording 10 assists. He was named 2011 USILA All-American Honorable Mention and All-ACC Academic Team, as well as ranked third overall on the team for goals scored in 2011. During his freshman year, Rotanz was part of the 2009 ACC Championship team.
During the draft, the Machine received two additional picks (16th and 24th overall), as well as a 2013 MLL Collegiate Draft fifth round pick, in a trade with Boston Cannons, who received the Machine's 2013 MLL Collegiate Draft second round pick.

The Machine begins its 2012 inaugural season on the road for its first two games then returns to Columbus for the 2012 inaugural home opener on May 19 against Rochester Rattlers.
