Philadelphia Soul News Release
PHILADELPHIA - Another solid practice by the Philadelphia Soul as the ArenaBowl XXII champions conclude the first week of practices during the 2011 Training Camp at the Philadelphia Eagles' NovaCare Complex in South Philadelphia. One area that has all of the coaching staff pleased is the defense. The secondary consists of veteran names like: Mike Brown, Tanner Varner, Chris Martin, James Sadler and Antonio Malone. While names like Derek Pegues and Kent Richardson have also looked impressive.
FRIDAY NIGHT BRIGHT-S: Defensive lineman Callahan Bright (6-1, 365, Shaw) has made his presence felt everyday in training camp. Bright has consistently pushed through to the offensive backfield and takes on the responsibility of firing-up the defense on every down that he is on the field. In 2010, he played for the Tulsa Talons after playing briefly with the Jacksonville Sharks earlier in the season. At Shaw University, Bright tallied 48 tackles, seven and a half tackles for a loss, and half a sack. Coming out of high school on National Signing Day, he was ranked No. 14 overall and No. 2 at defensive back.
DID YOU KNOW? Syvelle Newton (6-6, 210, South Carolina) played with his brother, Cam Newton (not that Cam Newton), with the Georgia Force for eight games in 2008. He also played for Coach Steve Spurrier during his collegiate career. QUOTE OF THE DAY: "I really like how this team as come together so quickly. They have really pulled together and truly care for each other. I really think we have the makings of something special here." - Soul head coach, Mike Hohensee on how the first week of practices went. TRAINING CAMP: The Philadelphia Soul Training Camp.
