Acadiana Cane Cutters News Release
The Acadiana Cane Cutters, of the Texas Collegiate League (TCL), have announced their 2011 Roster. Being the newest member of the TCL, the Cane Cutters plan to be competitors for the league title from day one. ¬ÅWe still have some contracts out that we are waiting on, but the Cane Cutters have a wealth of talent already lined up ¬Â said Cane Cutter head coach Lonny Landry.
As previously announced, Taylor Dugas, a Teurlings Catholic product and current outfielder for the Alabama Crimson Tide, will be joined by fellow Lafayette native, Jacob Derouen, a catcher from Louisiana Tech and former Lafayette High standout.
Joining Dugas in the outfield from Nicholls State will be Mike Barba, Andrew Miller another Alabama player, and Ladd Rhodes from Jones County Juco who is an early signee with Southeastern LA.
The infield at Fabacher Field will be covered by Grant Dozar of LSU who may also see some time behind the plate, Ashley Graeter from Southern Mississippi, and Juan Rosado, currently on Coach Jeff Willis' LSU-Eunice team. Adam Seal of Nicholls State, also another catching prospect and Thomas Simoneaux, one of two Ragin' Cajuns on the squad who can handle the middle infield, are joined by Matt Hicks and Robert Tasin, an early signee for LSU. Both Hicks and Tasin are scheduled to split time on the mound and around the infield. Hicks can also be seen at UL-Lafayette this spring as a reliever for Coach Tony Robichaux's squad. Texas A&M will be represented on the Cane Cutters infield by Brett Thornell. Behind the plate could see Techster Jacob Derouen as well as Dozar or Seal, who will also share some infield responsibilities.
On the mound for the Cane Cutters will be RHP's Tasin, and Hicks who will be joined by Nick White, a New Iberia native from Hutchinson CC, and Jason Greenleaf a 6'3 ¬Â RHP from Southeastern LA. Jordan McCoy of Central Alabama CC, rounds out the right-handers while Colin Bear and Andrew Adams both from Northwestern LA are the southpaws on the squad. An early signee for UL-Lafayette, Nick Jones from BRCC, will be an added RHP and utility player who could handle 1B or some outfield responsibilities.
The Cane Cutters are currently taking applications for host families. Applications as well as updates on the roster and schedule can be found on our website: www.canecuttersbaseball.com.
