Mobile Sets Sail

Come get hooked with the Tarpons. The first player signings were this week with the signing of Etric Pruitt, Abraham Jones, and Brent Dearmon. With the announcements of these big name players, Mobile has also set an open tryout date on Jan 8th. For more information on tryouts, visit the website at TheMobileBayTarpons.com.

Mobile is also finalizing the last interviews for the head coaching position. The new coach will be announced within the next two weeks.

The Mobile Bay Tarpons of the Southern Indoor Football League are in the first season. Tickets are on sale until the end of the holidays. Mobile opens the season with the Lafayette Wildcatters on March 21st.

Player Signings

Etric Pruitt (Theodore, Al) 6'0 215lbs Safety

Etric Pruit was selected out of Southern Miss by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2004 NFL draft. Etric was then traded tothe Seattle Seahawks where he won a Super Bowl Championship. Etric finished his NFL career with the Detriot Lions for three seasons. Etric played in the NFL Europe for the Berlin Thunder. At Southern Miss Pruitt was a three-year starter at free safety who was one of the most exciting big-play defenders and special teams performers in college football. The two-time All-Conference USA pick added All-America honors the last two years. Etric holds the school career record for defensive backs with 362 tackles (232 solos). Started 37 of 47 games, adding a pair of sacks for minus-8 yards, 14 stops for losses of 37 yards, five fumble recoveries, five forced fumbles, 11 interceptions for 144 yards in returns (13.1 avg.) and a touchdown, 29 pass deflections, six blocked kicks and three punt returns for 43 yards in returns. Etric also played in the Senior Bowl in Mobile, AL. Etric played his high school ball at Theodore High School.

Abraham Jones (Prichard, Al) 5'11 200lbs Defensive back

Abrahama "Ham" Jones was a dominating high school football and track athlete for Vigor High School. Ham started for Vigor as a freshman on the football field and won state championships in track and field. Abraham was a national high jump and triple jump champion his senior year at Vigor. Ham went on to sign a track scholarship with West Virginia and wowed the football coaches to earn a spot in there receiver core and defensive secondary.

Brent Dearmon (Saraland, Al) 6'1 200lbs Quarterback

Brent is a product of Vigor High School. After being named the starter as a sophmore at Vigor, Brent lead the team to a 24-5 record over the next three seasons. Dearmon was a four year starter at Bethel College were he broke single season, and career passing marks for yards, completions, and touchdowns. Dearmon finished his college career with 7600 yards passing and 77 total touchdown passes. Dearmon lead Bethel to it's first playoff victory in school history. He played in AF2 with the Tenn Valley Vipers, and in the IFL with the San Angelo Stampede. In four games with the Stampede in 2008, Dearmon passed for 26 touchdowns with only three interceptions. As a starting quarterback in AF2 and the IFL Dearmon is 7-1 with the one loss coming in his first start.
