USHL Drops Puck on 2010-11 Season on October 1st

Chicago, IL - The United States Hockey League is gearing up for the 2010-11 regular season which begins play on Friday, October 1st. A total of 10 games will be played during the first weekend of the USHL's 32nd season, it's ninth as the nation's only Tier I junior hockey league.

A record 16 teams will compete in the USHL during the 2010-11 season, including two new Member Clubs - the Muskegon Lumberjacks and Dubuque Fighting Saints. This season will feature a 480-game schedule, the most games ever played in one season in USHL history.

Fifteen USHL teams will be in action during the opening weekend, which includes rivalry contests as the Sioux City Musketeers host the Sioux Falls Stampede on Saturday while the Waterloo Black Hawks welcome the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders the same evening. The defending Clark Cup Champion Green Bay Gamblers open their season on Saturday by hosting the Fargo Force in a rematch of a thrilling Clark Cup Finals that Green Bay captured in the deciding fifth game in front of a record USHL playoff crowd of 8,487 at the Resch Center in Green Bay.

Conference Alignment

...The 16 USHL Member Clubs will be split into two conferences for the 2010-11 season. Eastern Conference: Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, Chicago Steel, Green Bay Gamblers, Indiana Ice, Muskegon Lumberjacks, Team USA, Waterloo Black Hawks, Youngstown Phantoms. Western Conference: Des Moines Buccaneers, Dubuque Fighting Saints, Fargo Force, Lincoln Stars, Omaha Lancers, Sioux City Musketeers, Sioux Falls Stampede, Tri-City Storm.

Expanded Playoffs

...The Clark Cup playoffs have expanded as 12 teams will qualify for the postseason. The top six teams in each conference at the conclusion of the regular season will qualify for the playoffs with the top two teams in each conference automatically advancing to the second round. The remaining four teams will vie for a spot in the second round by playing a best-of-three first-round series (#3 vs. #6 and #4 vs. #5). All remaining rounds of the playoffs will have a best-of-five format, culminating with the Clark Cup Finals which features the winner of the Eastern Conference vs. the winner of the Western Conference.
