ABA Adds Rockford, IL to 2011 Expansion Teams

Rockford, IL. The American Basketball Association (ABA) www.abalive.com today announced that the league will expand to Rockford, IL in 2011 with the addtion of a team owned by local businessman, Leon Smith. "Rockford was one of the most successful cities in the former CBA," stated Joe Newman, ABA CEO. "The support from the fans, sponsors, media, and community at large made Rockford one of the shining lights of that league. We are very excited that the ABA brand of exciting and affordable basketball and entertainment will be there next season. And we are very pleased that Leon Smith is at the helm; the perfect combination of businessman/sportsman. He should be very successful."

Leon Smith is the owner of Babbage Computer Solutions. He has a Bachelors in Philiosophy from the University of Illinois at Springfield and is the Founder of the Rock River Classic. He has partnered with the Milwaukee Bucks and formed the High School Basketball All-Star Game where 46 local players played at the Bradley Center prior to the NBA game. He has coached high school basketball at Keith Country Day and serviced as men's basketball administrator for Washington Park Community Center with the Rockford Park District. "We have really missed exciting and affordable professional basketball here in Rockford," stated Smith. "We are so excited about being a part of the ABA and the North Central Division and we are going to make our city proud."
