GAME NOTES
SECOND MEETING
Tonight is the second meeting between the Atlanta Beat and Sky Blue FC, and the first meeting at Yurcak Field. The two teams first met on May 9th for the Beat's home
opener, the inaugural match at KSU Soccer Stadium in Kennesaw. The Beat fell 1-0 on an own goal off defender Leigh Ann Robinson. This is the second of a four-game series this season between the two teams; the remaining two games of the series will both take place in Kennesaw in August and September.
WINLESS STREAKS
Both the Beat and Sky Blue FC are on winless streaks entering tonight's game. The Beat have gone 0-2-2 since their last victory against Chicago on June 19. Highlights from this period include a rough 4-0 home loss to FC Gold Pride and a come-from-behind, late-game 2-2 tie against Philadelphia. The Beat also tied Chicago 1-1 and lost 3-1 last week against Boston. Sky Blue FC has gone 0-1-1 since their last victory June 27 against FC Gold Pride. Sky Blue tied Washington 0-0 and lost last week to Chicago, 2-0.
HIGH SCORERS MATCH UP
The most exciting matchup of tonight's game may be Atlanta forward Eniola Aluko versus Sky Blue FC forward Laura Kalmari. With 4 goals apiece on the season, the two sit in a five-way tie for 5th -most goals in
the league. Aluko, an English national, scored all four of her goals this season with the Saint Louis Athletica before she was signed by the Beat in early June. Kalmari, too, has been scoreless for some time, as her last goal came against the Philadelphia Independence on June 6. With three goals each, Sky Blue's Tasha Kai and Rosana are also on the list of league leaders, as are Atlanta's Tina Ellertson and Johanna Rasmussen, with two goals each.
BEAT PLAYERS FACE CHALLENGES
Goalkeeper Hope Solo joined the US National Team for two matches against Sweden on July 13 and 17. She will play in her second game in two days tonight, joining the Beat in New Jersey after last night's match in Connecticut. The Beat's defense, still allowing a league- low 1.58 goals per game, will miss Kia McNeill as she serves the third game of a three-game suspension following her red card on July 3. Finally, forward Johanna Rasmussen, who scored the Beat's only goal in
each of the last two games, will try to extend her scoring streak to three games.

July 11, 2010 GAME THIRTEEN: LOSS IN BOSTON
The Atlanta Beat (1-7-4) scored early, but the Boston Breakers (3-5-4) scored three goals in five minutes for a 3-1 win. Atlanta midfielder Johanna Rasmussen scored the fastest goal (6') of Atlanta's season off an Eniola Aluko assist in the sixth minute. The Beat dominated the rest of the first half, but in the 49th minute the Breakers
scored three goals in quick succession from Jordan Angeli, Kelly Smith, and Liz Bogus. The win marked the first time Boston had scored more than two goals on the season.
July 7, 2010 GAME TWELVE: TIE IN CHICAGO
The Atlanta Beat (1-6-4) remained undefeated against the Chicago Red Stars (3-5-5) with a 1-1 draw. Atlanta's Johanna Rasmussen scored the game's first goal in the 30th minute, finishing an unassisted rebound off Chicago
keeper Jillian Loyden. The Red Stars equalized in the 42nd minute, as Ella Maser scored off a Cristiane assist.
Although both teams had chances to score the game winner in the second half, the draw remained through the conclusion of play. Chicago had 9 shots on goal to Atlanta's 3, and Atlanta keeper Hope Solo had a banner night with 8 saves.
July 3, 2010 GAME ELEVEN: LOSS TO FC GOLD PRIDE
Marta scored two goals as FC Gold Pride (8-3-1) earned a 4-0 win against the Atlanta Beat (1-6-3) for their second victory over Atlanta this season. FCGP's Christine Sinclair broke the game open in the 2nd minute
with a goal off a Marta assist, and Marta scored goals for herself in the 31st and 87th minutes, with Kelley O'Hara
completing the shutout in the 91st minute. For Atlanta,
the game was marked by defender Kia McNeill's red card in the 34th minute that forced the Beat to play with
10 men for the remainder of the game. McNeill had attempted to finish a goal, but the goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart had already secured the ball, so McNeill's high kick proved to be a violation.
June 30, 2010 ALL-STAR: ABBY XI v. MARTA XI
KSU Soccer Stadium hosted the 2010 WPS All-Star Game featuring sides lead by captains Abby Wambach of the Washington Freedom and Marta of FC Gold Pride. Seven Atlanta Beat players were chosen to play in the
All-Star Game: goalkeeper Hope Solo, defender Tina Ellertson, midfielders Aya Miyama, Lori Chalupny and Angie Kerr, and forwards Eniola Aluko and Ramona Bachmann. Two Atlanta Beat players scored goals during the match. Abby XI forward Eniola Aluko scored in the 35th minute, and midfielder Aya Miyama, playing
for Marta's XI, scored in the 74th minute. Marta's XI
defeated Abby's XI with a 5-2 win in front of a crowd of 4,610 fans.
June 23, 2010 GAME TEN: TIE WITH INDEPENDENCE
The Atlanta Beat's (1-5-3) tied the Philadelphia Independence (5-3-3) in dramatic fashion in the third meeting between the two teams. Atlanta's Mami Yamiguchi scored the first goal of the match in the 14th minute off an assist from McCall Zerboni. Philadelphia responded with two goals of their own in the 35th and
48th minutes, but Beat defender Tina Ellertson caused
an own goal in the first minute of stoppage time at the end of the match to equalize.
June 19, 2010 GAME NINE: FIRST VICTORY
The Atlanta Beat's (1-5-2) scored their first home goal in WPS play and attained their first franchise victory against the Chicago Red Stars (2-5-2). Although five of the team's star players missed the game due to national team duty or grassroots campaigns related to the World Cup, the Beat still outshot the Red Stars 17-4, leading shots on goal 4-1. The deciding goal came in the 42nd minute, when defender Tina Ellertson headed forward Monica Ocampo's pass into the net.
June 6, 2010 GAME EIGHT: TIE WITH RED STARS
The Atlanta Beat's (0-5-2) first meeting with the Chicago Red Stars (2-4-2) saw many new faces on both sides of the field, with the debut of Red Star coach Omad Namazi and a total of eight new players, picked up by the teams after the dissolution of the Saint Louis Athletica. With their defense bolstered by the addition of goalkeeper Hope Solo, who had eight saves on the night, the Beat kept the Red Stars scoreless. However, the Red Stars' defense closed down the Beat offense, allowing only 5 shots and no goals for a final score of 0- 0.

After a bye week during which the US women's national team defeated Germany in an exhibition game, the Atlanta Beat were scheduled to play the Saint Louis Athletica. However, the Athletica dissolved shortly before Saturday's match, and the Beat played the Tampa Bay Hellenic of the W-League in an exhibition match, which concluded in a 1-1 tie. The Beat outshot the Hellenic 30- 1, and defender Rebecca Nolin scored the team's first goal in the new stadium.
May 16, 2010 GAME SIX: LOSS TO WASHINGTON
Although the Atlanta Beat (0-5-1) outshot the Washington Freedom (3-2-1) 21-10, they lost a 2-0 match in their second home game of the season. The match was marked by an aggressive challenge in the air in the 7th minute between Beat midfielder McCall Zerboni and Freedom midfielder Sonia Bompastor that injured both players. Zerboni sustained a concussion and did not return. Freedom forward Abby Wambach gained her league-leading 7th assist on a Lene Mykjaland goal in the 29th minute, and Wambach scored a goal herself in the 64th minute off an assist from Bompastor, who had returned to the game after receiving stitches. There were 3,112 in attendance.
May 9, 2010 GAME FIVE: HOME OPENER
The Atlanta Beat (0-4-1, 1 point) opened the brand-new KSU Soccer Stadium with a 1-0 loss to New Jersey's Sky Blue FC (3-2-0, 9 points). The Beat had 15 shots on goal to Sky Blue's 3, but a Beat own goal in the 50th minute proved to be the deciding factor. Sky Blue midfielder Heather O'Reilly crossed the ball into the box, which Beat defender Leigh Ann Robinson attempted to head to goalkeeper Brett Maron. However, Maron was out of the goal challenging a potential shot, and Robinson's deflection flew into the back of the net, giving Sky Blue the lead. Sky Blue goalkeeper Karen Bardsley made 13 saves during the match, defeating many Beat chances during the match and recording a league- leading third shutout. There were 7,248 in attendance.
May 1, 2010 GAME FOUR: BEAT FALL TO PHILLY
The Atlanta Beat dropped a 1-0 decision Saturday night in a second meeting with the Philadelphia Independence. The Beat led 6-4 in total first half shots. However Lori Lindsey of the Independence found the game winner 24 minutes into the match. The goal came when an Independence direct kick was saved by Atlanta
Beat goalkeeper Brett Maron and then followed by Philadelphia's Lori Lindsey.
April 24, 2010 GAME THREE: BEAT FACE GOLD PRIDE
Mexican international Monica Ocampo finished her first goal of the season as the Atlanta Beat (0-2-1, 1 point) fell 2-1 to the Bay Area's FC Gold Pride (2-1-0, 6 points) in Castro Valley, Cal. Beat midfielder Tobin Heath suffered a right ankle injury in the 18th minute of play and would not return. FC Gold Pride opened the scoring in the 11th minute when Camily Abily sent a through ball into Tiffeny Millbrett for the game's first goal. The Beat responded with several close opportunities before Beat forward Monica Ocampo split the Bay Area center backs to finish in the 23rd. A physical first half yielded cautions on both sides of the ball as Pride defender Rachel Buehler picked up a yellow in the 26th minute and Beat midfielder/defender McCall Zerboni received the same in the 45th. The first half ended tied at one goal apiece. An evenly-matched second half saw a single shot on goal from both teams. The Beat's Ramona Bachmann had several half-chances in the box. However, Bay Area defender Carrie Dew shot the game winning goal just moments before the final whistle.
April 18, 2010 GAME TWO: FACING FREEDOM
Ramona Bachmann scored the Atlanta Beat's first goal in Women's Professional Soccer history as the Beat fell 3-1 to the Washington Freedom Sunday night at the Maryland SoccerPlex. Goals by the Freedom's Abby Wambach, Homare Sawa, and Christie Welsh accounted for the result. Play went back and forth in the first half with Atlanta maintaining good possession and chances by Beat midfielder Lauren Sesselmann in the fourth minute, Rasmussen in the eighth, and Heath in the 11th. The Freedom's Abby Wambach scored the game's first goal off a Sonia Bompastor free kick that Beat goalkeeper Allison Whitworth couldn't handle. The ball fell to Wambach who made the finish. The goal came in the 43rd minute and put the Freedom up 1-0 heading into the half. At the start of second half, Atlanta's Mami Yamaguchi played a through ball into Bachmann in the 47th minute. Bachmann ran in behind the Freedom defense to score the Beat's first goal in WPS history. Nearly three minutes after Bachmann's finish, a Washington Freedom serve came in from right midfield. Wambach laid it off to Sawa who shot from the top of the box and put the Freedom up 2-1 in the 50th minute. Christie Welsh scored the game's final goal in the 89th contributing to the 3-1 result.

April 11, 2010 GAME ONE: EXPANSION TEAM BATTLE
The Atlanta Beat and Philadelphia Independence are the first two expansion teams in WPS. Seven teams around the country began play in the 2009 season. In March of 2009 Philadelphia was officially announced as the 8th franchise before Atlanta followed suit just three months later, joining the league as the 9th team for the 2010 season. The 2010 season opener marked the first-ever game for both franchises in an inaugural battle of the WPS newcomers and ended in a 0-0 tie.

PRESEASON March 10, 2010 Heading into the team's first preseason game against Auburn, the Beat waived draft picks Shaneka Gordon of West Florida, Kasey Langdon from Oklahoma State, Jill Hutchinson of Wake Forest, and Santa Clara's Amanda Poach (acquired through Dispersal Draft trade). The Beat defeated Auburn 3-2 with goals from McCall Zerboni, Shelley Thompson and Christine Latham. Following the Auburn match, Sharolta Nonen and Christine Latham were both released, trimming the roster to 24 players.
PRESEASON March 19, 2010 After back-to-back goals from Swiss forward, Ramona Bachmann, the Atlanta Beat defeated the U-20 U.S. Women's National Team 2-0 in St. Augustine, Fl. Bachmann scored the Beat's opening goal just two minutes into the match after outpacing a defender to a well-placed, through ball from defender Stacy Bishop. The Swizz international notched her second when she
dispossessed a defender to go one v. one with the goalkeeper.
PRESEASON March 21, 2010 The Atlanta Beat earned two shut-outs in two games after defeating the University of Florida 6-0 on two first- half and four second half goals in Gainesville, Fla. Mexican forward Monica Ocampo opened the Beat's scoring in the 20th minute with a finish to the far post before midfielder Sophia Mundy rebounded a Marisha Schumacher-Hodge shot to finish the second goal of the first half. This would be the Beat's highest scoring match of preseason as two goals by Kerri Hanks plus finishes from Amanda Cinalli and Shelley Thompson ended the game 6-0 in favor of the Beat.
March 23, 2010 The Atlanta Beat earned a fourth straight preseason win after defeating the Boston Breakers 2-1 in the team's first match against a WPS opponent. The Beat's Monica Ocampo scored the game's opening goal on a one-two combination with Japanese forward Mami Yamaguchi at 20 minutes into the first half. Yamaguchi finished one of her own after striking a direct kick in the top corner putting the Beat up 2-0 at the 60 minute mark. Boston forward Claire Zimmeck put the breakers on the board with 15 minutes to go, ending the game 2-1 in favor of the Beat.
PRESEASON March 25, 2010 Falling 2-1 against Florida State University, the Atlanta Beat took its first and only loss of preseason as former Seminole All-American and 2007 MAC Hermann Trophy winner Mami Yamaguchi made the first trip back to her alma mater. In the game, Florida State took the early lead just 40 seconds after the opening whistle. The Beat came close to tying in the 26th minute as Sophia Mundy's strike (inside the left post) was saved by FSU keeper Kelsey Wys leading Seminoles into the half up 1- 0. During the halftime break, FSU extended a warm welcome to former Seminole All-American Mami Yamaguchi, who the Beat selected in the 2009 WPS International Draft. Following Yamguchi's recognition, the Beat fired straight out of the gates with Rebecca Nolin's header saved by the Seminole keeper. Soon following was the Beat's first goal as German international Shelley Thompson collected a rebound off the crossbar in the 52nd. FSU would regain the lead off a shot from Janice Cayman on the game-winner. Atlanta had chances from Kerri Hanks on a redirection, McCall Zerboni in the 75th, and on a free kick from Stacy Bishop

in the 88th. Midfielder Amanda Cinalli left the match sustaining a rib injury.
March 28, 2010 The Atlanta Beat along with several other WPS franchises challenged the NCAA National Champion University of North Carolina in preseason play. The Beat defeated the Tarheels 5-0 at Kennesaw State University in front of the team's first-ever home crowd. Finishing three goals in the first half and two in the second, the Beat saw its second highest scoreline and margin for victory in an exhibition match this preseason. Just six minutes into the game, Beat Midfielder Angie Kerr sent a ball across the box to Sophia Mundy for the game's opening goal. Moments later, Beat defender Leigh Ann Robinson attacked from the right back position serving to Japanese international Mami Yamaguchi for the team's second finish. McCall Zerboni scored unassisted, finishing the Beat's third goal just before the half. Play went back and forth in the beginning of the second half before Katie Larkin put away another Beat goal making the score 4-0 in the 73rd minute. Two minutes later, Yamaguchi put away her second and the game's fifth. The Beat was without several internationals serving national team duty: Ramona Bachmann (Switzerland), Johanna Rasmussen (Denmark), and Monica Ocampo (Mexico).
April 3, 2010 In the last test of preseason 2010, the Beat defeated the Saint Louis Athletica 2-1 in the team's second match against a WPS opponent. The Beat struck first as forward Ramona Bachmann dribbled a short corner into the box and sent a low, driven ball to Beat defender, and former Athletica centerback, Kia McNeill for a finish in the 27th minute. Bachmann, who rejoined the team in Tulsa following a national team call-up with Switzerland, also finished the game's second goal to put the Beat up 2-0 at the 38th. Thirty-five minutes into the first half, an injured Bachmann left the game but was probable to return. "While we tried to determine if she would come back, St. Louis scored,"Â said O'Sullivan. Athletica midfielder Shannon Boxx combined on a one-two with Aya Miyama before striking a far corner, left-footed finish. Following the goal, the Beat replaced Bachmann with midfielder Sophia Mundy who finished the remainder of the game. The Beat finished preseason with a 6-1 record and outscored opponents 21-6.
