ABA To Return To Jacksonville In 2011

Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) www.abalive.com today announced that it will be returning to Jacksonville, Florida for the 2011-2012 season with the addition of the Jacksonville Bluewaves to its list of expansion teams. According to Joe Newman, ABA CEO, "Jacksonville is a great city and deserving of a quality ABA organization. In Kevin Waters, we've found the right owner to maximize the potential. I've known Kevin for several years and am very impressed with his abiliites both on and off the court. Another great addition to the fast growing Southeast Division."
Kevin Waters, who will serve both as team owner and general manager, played his college basketball at Fisk University where he lettered for three years and led the team in 3-point shots and assists prior to turning to coaching. He has coached at Murray State Univresity and Kennesaw State Univresity as well as Edward Waters College. At the professional level, he has served as VP of Basketball Operations for the ABA Kentucky team and helped lead the Bluewaves to an undefeated season in the WBA prior to moving to the ABA. "One of the things I am most proud of," stated Waters, "is that 10 or my 12 players have gone to play internationally. Our goal is to help players with their careers, on and off the court. Joe Newman and I have talked about my having a team in the ABA for several years and I am really excited about the great opportunity for our players and everyone involved with this team. The ABA has a lot of history and we're looking forward to adding our own chapter to a league that spawned such names as Julius "Dr. J" Erving,
George "Iceman" Gervin, Moses Malone, and of course, our own Artis Gilmore. Who could ask for more?"
