Dewalt, Edwards, And Crum Earn Week 14 Honors
June 23, 2010 - Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL) News Release
Columbus Lions wide receiver Lonnell Dewalt, Albany Panthers linebacker Larry Edwards, and Columbus Lions kicker Trey Crum have been named as the Southern Indoor Football Leagues Offensive, Defensive, and Special Teams Players of the Week for Week 14.
An integral part to the Columbus Lions current two game-winning streak has been due to the serene receiving prowess of wide receiver Lonnell Dewalt (6'6 230, Kentucky). For the second week in a row, Dewalt earned the SIFL's Offensive Player of the Week after nabbing ten receptions for 190 yards and four touchdowns in the Lions 58-55 road win over the Wildcatters this past weekend. On a tear of late, Lonnell has been torching the opposition accumulating 15 receptions, 284 yards, and nine touchdowns helping clinch the overall second seed in the SIFL for Columbus.
For the fifth time this season an Albany Panthers defender takes home the Defensive Player of the Week as linebacker Larry Edwards (6'3 260, North Carolina) marks the fourth different player to do so. As the Panthers clinched the SIFL's regular season title in their 66-15 win over the Greenville Force, Edwards was the top tackler on the evening gathering 8.5. Larry also put the very first points of the game on the board when he brought down Greenville quarterback Victor Rogers for a safety three minutes into the start of Saturday's contest.
Earning his sixth nod as the Special Teams Player of the Week is Columbus Lions kicker Trey Crum (5'6 170, Delta State). Crum has been the most decorated member of the SIFL after previously landing the award in Weeks 2, 3, 7, 9, and 13. For the second consecutive week, Trey concluded with perfection on all of his PAT attempts (7 for 7), while also adding two field goals (48,41), and a uno. Coming midway thru the second quarter, his 48-yarder broke his previous longest field goal of 40-yards. Trey's 14 points moved his season total to 114, just one point shy of breaking the total set by Louisiana's Tommy Hebert last season.
Offensive Player of the Week candidates includes: Columbus QB Chris McCoy (17-31, 316 total yards, and 6 TD's), Lafayette WR Clyde Edwards (10 rec., 132 yards, and 3 TD's).
Defensive Player of the Week candidates includes: Columbus DB Damian Daniels (6 tackles, 1 Int, and 3 pass break-ups), Lafayette LB Stephen Barrett (10 tackles and 1 pass break-up), and Columbus DB Anthony Merritt (6 tackles, 1 Int, and 1 pass break-up).
Special Teams Player of the Week candidates includes: Lafayette K Sean Comiskey (7-7 PAT's, 1-3 FG's, and 3 uno's), and Albany K Juan Bongarra (7-9 PAT's and 1 uno).
