Panthers Look To Stay On Prowl With Visiting Catters

Published on May 7, 2010 under Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL) News Release

ALBANY, GA - Hot off their overtime victory from last weekend, the Lafayette Wildcatters (1-3) of the Southern Indoor Football League head back to plains to take on the first place Albany Panthers (3-0).

Large come from behind victories are not that inconceivable. Doing so to capture your first victory of the season can be stimulating. Even more inspiring is the fact that it came over their division rivals and defending SIFL champion Louisiana Swashbucklers. But now the Wildcatters are left with the tall task of going into the Albany Civic Center and dethroning the first place Albany Panthers.

Even such is a tall task considering the club lost their first three game via the road with one of those losing trips coming by the hands of the Panthers. Even a bigger task considering only one SIFL team has come away with a road victory.

Back on April 17th, Albany overcame a 15-point deficit to defeat the Wildcatters 70-64. A strong Panthers finish, three touchdowns on last four drives, and the impeding of a potential game winning drive that was stalled due to three consecutive Lafayette delay of game penalties giving Albany the win.

Albany has reached the plateau behind the arm of quarterback Cecil Lester and his 298 total yards of offense, tops in the SIFL. In the previous meeting against Lafayette, Lester completed 22 of 43 passes for 381 yards and eight touchdowns. The receiving duo of Clinton Raffe and John Harris have been wreaking havoc on opposing defenders with both averaging over 118 receiving yards per game.

Every home game becomes critical for Albany as home dates are beginning to run out for the club. Of the Panthers final nine games, only two will come from the friendly confines of the Albany Civic Center including the final four all coming on the road.

Lafayette will look to capitalize off an emotional victory over the Bucs and try to look past the ‘would of, could of, should of' when it comes to their last meeting against the Panthers. The Wildcatters squandered a chance of upending Albany in large part to three of their last four drives ending on turnover on downs. The passing duo of quarterback Bo Bartik and receiver Clyde Edwards will have to reconnect as Edwards tied an SIFL record for the most receptions (11) in game in the previous meeting.

The Lafayette Wildcatters take on the Albany Panthers this Saturday night at 7:30 pm. Its "Toyota of Albany Night" with the first 500 mothers in attendance receiving a complementary flower. For more information contact the Panthers front office at 229-435-1230.
