The Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL-Pro) held its biannual owners meeting March 4 at Del Mar Fairgrounds in San Diego.The owners discussed a wide range of issues including scheduling, expansion, travel budgets, insurance, and the upcoming North American Championships.
Before adjourning to watch the San Diego Sockers host Vitesse Dallas in the Semifinal of the US Open the owners approved the following items:
--The PASL-Pro announced the approval of three new members, the Tacoma Stars, Los Angeles Bolts, and Revolucion Tijuana for the 2010/11 season. The Stars, who had played nine years professionally from 1983-1992, and have been an amateur member of the PASL-Premier since 2003, just won the PASL-Premier Winter Championship on Saturday. The Bolts just completed their first season in the PASL-Premier and lost to Tacoma in Saturday's final. Revolucion has played two seasons in the Liga Mexicana de Futbol Rapido and played a seven game series against the San Diego Sockers and California Cougars this season. More information on these teams as well as additional expansion announcements will be released in the coming weeks.
--The owners approved a performance bond that will ensure that certain standards are met by each team.
--Revolucion Tijuana announced they will host an All-Star Weekend on March 26-28.
--The final of the US Open Arena Soccer Championships between the San Diego Sockers and Louisville Lightning will be held April 10 at 7:30 at Mockingbird Valley Soccer Arena in Louisville.
"The playoffs this week in San Diego and the upcoming All-Star Weekend in Tijuana are a great way to celebrate our season," said PASL-Pro Commissioner Kevin Milliken. "The San Diego Sockers are clearly an organization on the rise and we look forward to the great job they will do hosting the North American Championships and the job Tijuana will do hosting the All-Star Weekend."
The PASL-Pro is a professional league which began play on October 25, 2008 when the Stockton Cougars defeated the Colorado Lightning 10-5 at Stockton Arena. The 2008-09 season concluded with the North American Championships March 13-15 at Stockton Arena. The Stockton Cougars defeated 1790 Cincinnati 13-5 to win the inaugural North American Championship. The PASL-Pro consists of nine US teams, the CMISL (Canada), and LMFR (Mexico). The San Diego Sockers, Louisville Lightning, and Ohio Vortex have been added for the 2009/10 season. The Sockers will host the 2009-10 North American Championships March 11-13 at Del Mar Arena. PASL-Premier is in its 12th season as the nation's top amateur arena soccer league. PASL-Pro and PASL-Premier are members of Federacion Internacional de Futbol Rapido (FIFRA).
