Huntsville Stars News Release
1. Are the Stars going to be doing anything with the Star Wars exhibit this season? Anything new happening for the All-Star Game? We're thinking of driving down for the All-Star Game (from Milwaukee), what else should be see while in Huntsville?
This summer, from June 25th - September 6th, the Star Wars exhibit will be on display at the Space Center. This is where science meets imagination and you don't have to be a science geek to appreciate it, nor do you have to be a Star Wars fan to enjoy it! We debated calling our event 'All-Stars Wars,' but the logo needed completion and we didn't have the final permission from George Lucas even though a national marketing rep was working on it for us. We met with the Space Center and are working on incorporating the Stars Wars characters into the All-Star Game. One young writer suggested that we get glow in the dark bats (light sabers) for the players, so we're getting good feedback locally. We will have a meet and greet at the Holiday Inn Downtown on Sunday, July 11th, that is open to the public. If you wanted to get autographs and mingle, this is a can't miss.
When is this season's youth baseball camp? This season's camp is Tuesday, June 1st - Thursday, June 3rd. Registration/payment is due no later than May 28th. The rain date/make-up date is Friday, June 4th. The camp will run from 9:00 am - noon daily and is open to boys and girls ages 6 - 14 (100 campers maximum). The Stars will provide baseball instruction, one (1) T-Shirt, Lunch & Beverages and one (1) Ticket to all 2010 Friday home games (camper must present his/her ticket card at Box Office on Fridays to receive free ticket, one ticket per game per camper). The cost is $100 per camper and if you do the math is less expensive than daycare or paying the girl down the street to babysit. First come - first served, for an application please email Kylee at kylee@huntsvillestars.com. This camp will be full in the next couple of weeks, if not sooner. Please don't wait!
What is the Stars new '10th Man Club?' The 10th Man Club is a reinvention of the current Booster Club. Last season we discovered that we needed to augment our staff with people that could jump in an help out when needed. As some other teams are doing, we are creating a 'bullpen' that we can go to on a regular basis to assist with everyday tasks and some not so ordinary ones. Most high schools and colleges have Booster Clubs or other groups that assist with program sales, parking, merchandise sales, etc. Our goal is to implement something similar to help with some unexpected tasks and some side jobs, many of which we are limited by because of our staff size. There will be no dues or fees to join the 10th Man Club, nor will be there meetings, committees or officers; you need only a willingness to help out or step in when needed to join. You'll probably get your hands dirty a few times and may miss some of the action on the field on occasion. The 10th Man Club isn't about autographs, collectibles and social events; it's a 9-1-1 call for help when problems pop up and for some other stadium events.
Last season, for example, we had some game-day employees no-show us on the Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day Weekends. It left us short-staffed in critical areas. Luckily we had fans that volunteered to pick up the slack and take tickets, announce the game, run the scoreboard, etc., when needed. This season we're just taking a pro-active approach so we're not caught off-guard again.
But we realize that there are hard core fans that don't want to miss the games and want more; less involved in the operation and more involved in the fan side of the house. Therefore, we are looking for somebody to organize and operate the new Stars Fan Club. Similar to the current Booster Club, this club will organize events and activities for Stars fans beyond the game of baseball. The person in charge of this group will confer on a regular basis with a Stars staff member liaison to coordinate events and activities such as Fan Club road trips, post-game feeds, etc. The Fan Club will elect it's own officers, decide on meetings, etc., collect dues if desired, etc. This club will be run for-the-fans by-the-fans with only the coordination between the club and the team to prevent conflicting schedules. If you are a member of the current Booster Club, many of the club's events and activities will continue in the Stars Fan Club. We do need a point person to head up this club.
If you're interested in learning more about the 10th Man Club or the new Stars Fan Club, please feel free to attend a briefing at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 20th, at Joe Davis Stadium. Our goal is to make the fan experience of these two groups rewarding and exciting. Please plan on joining us on the 20th as we retire the current Booster Club and jump-start the two new clubs to improve the stadium's operation and overall fan experience. Both of these clubs are important to our success. But we have a lot of extra projects this season, including the All-Star Game, so consider the 10th Man Club as a Booster Club on steroids. The Booster Clubs efforts in the past have been greatly appreciated by the team and we can't thank those members enough!
Those considering the 10th Man Club can expect to be involved in some stadium prep work as we near the end of the month. Nobody said it would be all fun and games.
When will season tickets be available for pick-up? Closer to the end of the month we will have tickets available. We'll get you a definite date in the next week or so.
Do you know who will be on our team this season? We have no idea at this time, but closer to the end of the month it will shape up. We never know 100% until the guys get off the plane. Then we type it up and once the Brewers give us the OK, we send it out to the media.
That's it for today. Have a good rest of the week, everybody.
Rock On!
