BOSTON, MA - The Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) made their second trade in two weeks on Tuesday, acquiring midfielder Brad Ross from the Toronto Nationals, MLL Commissioner David Gross announced today. The Cannons gave up a 3rd round pick in the 2010 Collegiate Draft and the teams also swapped 2nd round draft picks as part of the deal."Ross is very athletic midfielder that can get up and down the field," said Cannons Head Coach Bill Daye. "We like that he can play at both ends of the field and the move gives us another 2-way midi that can be used in special situations."
Ross, 24, was originally drafted by the Nationals in the 2nd round (15th overall) of the 2009 MLL Collegiate Draft. Ross played in 3 games in 2009, scoring 2 goals and collecting 6 ground balls. Both of the midfielder's goals scored last season were in the same game on July 23rd, against the Boston Cannons. Ross was a 3-time USILA All-American at Duke University. He holds the NCAA record for career wins with 72 as a Blue Devil. While at Duke, Ross scored 76 goals and added 26 assists. Ross has ties to the Boston area as he is currently the assistant coach for the Brown University Lacrosse Team in Providence, RI.
The Cannons send Toronto the 9th and 15th overall picks in the 2010 Draft while the Nationals sent the 12th pick along with Ross.
"We were very high on Brad when we selected him 15th overall in the 2009 College Entry Draft," said Nationals GM Stu Brown. "Brad became a key part of our Championship run once he got into the lineup late in the season. I believe that Brad will become a strong player in the MLL in the coming years. Boston approached us about acquiring Brad about 6 weeks ago, as an organization we are striving to build our franchise around homegrown talent, from the Ontario and Upstate New York areas. We feel that this deal allows us to open a midfield spot on the Roster for some of our younger local players to audition for. We also feel that we got fair value for Brad in acquiring the 9th and 15th overall picks in the 2010 Collegiate Entry Draft."
