Huntsville Stars Mail Call

Huntsville Stars News Release

Stars fans, here's what's in this morning's mail:

1-How much did the auction? Was the fundraiser successful? How much did the Stars season ticket package go for? Last night's Evening of Valentine Delights fundraiser that benefited the new Everybody Can Play playground was successful. The function generated over $12,000 for the playground and the Stars ticket and parking package valued at $1,665 went as we predicted, a steal for $650. Thanks to everybody who participated and attended.

2-I haven't picked up my BCS coin yet, when can I swing by? The coins are available Monday - Friday from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. Tomorrow (Monday) our offices will be closed as a well needed comp day for the staff; they've been running ragged seven days a week and need a day off. So Tuesday - Friday this week is good for coin pick-up.

3-When will season tickets be available for pick-up? Once we receive them from the printers and all are inventoried, we will send out an email and chase it with phone calls.

4-What's the status of the video board? As everybody knows last season the video board finally blew out and all our efforts to get it repaired failed. We had four separate companies try to determine and correct what was wrong. This Tuesday the company that produced the scoreboard is coming to the stadium to attempt to repair it. They have shipped us a crate of parts for just about anything that they think could be wrong. We'll have an 80' lift awaiting them and then, rain or shine or cold weather, they're going to take one last shot to repair it. Hopefully by Tuesday night we'll have a photo of it lit up on our video board. I would like to thank the people that helped eliminate some of the problems and narrow down the main issues; we've had some engineers and techno-freaks working on this thing for months, from the folks at NetwoRx of Huntsville to the City of Huntsville's IT Department. We can't thank them enough for trying to sort it all out and repairing as they went thru the system. Most of you know that this has been a frustrating issue with us and the company that installed the scoreboard, TS Sports, is sending their crew and parts at no cost to the city or the team to attempt to get this monster rebooted! Keep your fingers crossed for good weather and good news on Tuesday.

5-Why only 85 games on the radio this season? How come all 140 games aren't on the radio. We play 140 games and WTKI, the station Chad Anderson (our new broadcaster) has a schedule slammed with programming. They've agreed to carry our games on as many days as possible, but due to the daytime programming and the area High School and Alabama football games that were signed before our deal went thru, it cut the number of games back, hence 85 games on the radio network. Yes, you'll be able to listen in on AM and FM, Chad and Fred Holland, the GM at WTKI have worked out a pretty good package. The majority of games on the radio will be road games so you won't have to be sitting home in front of a computer listening in. ALL 140 GAMES will be webcast thru the station's and the Stars' websites, regardless if they are broadcast on radio or not.

6-My son turns 14 in May, what does he do to be a Bat Boy? Bat Boys and Bat Girls must be 14 years of age. If your son or daughter is interested, please send an email to starsinfo@huntsvillestars.com.

7-When is the Southern League All-Star Game? The Huntsville Stars host the SL All-Star Game on Monday,July 12th. The game will feature the best of the Northern and Southern Divisions.

8-Other teams have non-players on their bobbleheads. I don't know if you'd consider this, but what would the cost be to get one made of my husband for his 40th birthday? He's a bigger baseball fan than I am and I want to do something different for this birthday. Any suggestions? That would probably get you the Woman of the Year Honors from all the guy's in attendance. If you wanted to make this happen we would have to order a minimum of 1,508 bobbleheads from the manufacturer. There is a mold fee to make the prototype. We'd throw in his own jersey, a large skybox, some food and drink, the first pitch, the crowd singing Happy Birthday to ____ and you've in the neighborhood of $10,000. The bobblehead could have his favorite team's logo on it or his company's logo if you can get them to pony up some of the promo cash. I'd guarantee you that it'd be his most memorable birthday. If you're interested, call (256) 882-2562. Players know that you haven't made it until you get that bobblehead. he's a chance to provide the surprise party of a lifetime for a loved one.

9-Why do we have an off-day before our home opener? Why an off day so early in the season? We have to provide a travel day to the Jacksonville Suns to get to Huntsville.

10-Who are you picking in the Super Bowl so I can pick the other team because you're gonna be wrong? I'm rooting for the Saints but the Colts are just a well oiled machine. And even though my Vikings gift-wrapped a game two weeks ago I have a hard time believing that the Vikings could've beat the Colts. After today the Colts fans and players and going to kick themselves because they know deep in their hearts that they could've finally shut up Mercury Morris and the '72 Dolphins. They had a 19-0 season wrapped up and gave it away. It'll be close until midway thru the 3rd quarter, then Satan Manning will begin to light up the scoreboard like a Pinball Wizard (reference to The Who's Halftime Show). Colts 37, Saints 24. Write it down, hope I'm wrong, but I won't be. They'll be playing Super Bowl Jeopady in Indy tonight: "The answer is The Colts." BEEP..."What is 'Who Dat?'" Yeah, I'm tired of it, too.

Have a good Super Bowl Sunday, everybody.

Rock On!
