Saint John Riptide News Release
The Manchester Millrats are pleased to announce that Head Coach Heath Teixeira has named his three assistant coaches for the upcoming Premier Basketball League season, and they are: Ian McCarthy, David Jernigan, and Chris Burns.
McCarthy also serves as part owner and general manager for the Millrats.
David Jernigan brings over 17 years of experience of playing and coaching in the USA and Europe. A native of Denver, Colorado - Jernigan has been a resident of the Granite State since 2003 and has been since training New Hampshire area college basketball players. His playing career took him around the world to places such as Denmark, Norway, Austria, Australia, and Germany. His play earned him tryouts with the Denver Nuggets and the Houston Rockets.
Chris Burns starred locally at Merrimack High School. In 2002, he walked on at Providence College where he was a teammate of current and former Millrat-players, Dwight Brewington and Rob Sanders. In 2003, Burns transferred to Bryant University and became an All-Conference performer. While at Bryant he teamed with another future Millrat, in 6'11 Mike Williams, and a future Vermont Frost Heave in John Williams.
Chris played sparingly for the Manchester Millrats over the course of the last two seasons before deciding he wanted to try his hand at coaching.
"I am really pleased with the way our new coaching staff worked together over the first two days of training camp," explained Millrats Head Coach Heath Teixeira. "We have a nice mix of experience and eagerness with this group."
The Millrats training camp is underway with sessions Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at the Rockingham Athletic Club from 5-8pm and Wednesday at Hesser College from 5-7pm. Friday they depart for Halifax, Nova Scotia to face the Halifax Rainmen on Saturday in preseason action.
The Manchester Millrats are a third year minor league franchise based in Manchester, NH. The Millrats are a member of the Premier Basketball League (www.thepbl.com), the #1 independent minor league in the U.S.
Last season, the Manchester Millrats were the Atlantic Division Champions (16-4) and reached the PBL playoff semifinals.
Tickets are on sale online at www.millrats.com for the Millrats season opener against the Vermont Frost Heaves on January 3rd at Southern New Hampshire University.
