Amaya Sets Scoring Record In Exhibition Game At WWU

November 13, 2009 - International Basketball League (IBL) Bellingham Slam

BELLINGHAM, Wash.-The Bellingham Slam's Tyler Amaya scored 44 points while playing for Team Another Level in a 111-105 overtime exhibition loss against his alma mater, the Western Washington University Vikings, on Thursday night at Carver Gym in Bellingham, Wash.

Amaya's 44 points was the most ever scored in a game at WWU's Carver Gym, which was built in 1962. The previous record was 43, set by Nick Gibbs of Saint Martin's College on March 8, 2003.

Amaya was one of six Slam players from the 2009 International Basketball League season to suit up for Team Another Level, which is a Pacific Northwesttouring squad. Also suiting up were Lukas Henne, Jacob Stevenson, Ira Graham, Calin Schell, and David Brittinen.

Amaya's 44 points came in just 27 minutes by way of 13-of-17 shooting from the floor, including a 7-of-9 mark from three-point range. Amaya also collected 14 rebounds to tie for game-high honors.

Team Another Level led by as much as 11 in the first half and nine in the second half, before WWU was able to rally and build a three point lead with under two minutes left in regulation.

Henne hit a three-pointer with four seconds remaining to force the overtime session.

After Amaya committed his fifth and disqualifying foul early in overtime, the Vikings scored 12 straight points to take control of the game.

Henne was Team Another Level's second-leading scorer with 22 points, while Stevenson added 10.
