Coastal Bend Thunder Amadeo Zazueta has been signed to a contract with the Atlanta Braves organization.

The transaction between the Thunder and the Braves was announced by Thunder field manager Al Gallagher.

The native Mexican was recently named one of the "Top 10 Talent" in independent league baseball by Baseball America.

Zazueta , 23, from Culiacan, Mexico, was originally signed by the Houston Astros. He played two years in the Venezuelan Summer League and was his team's Most Valuable Player in 2005.

He played with the Harlingen WhiteWings in 2008.

"We hate losing Amadeo, but that's what this club and league is about, helping young, qualified players make it into or back into organized baseball and the major leagues," said Gallagher, a former major league player.

San Angelo field manager Doc Edwards, who has managed at major league (Cleveland Indians) and minor league levels, said of Zazueta:

"He can flat play shortstop. Put him with a manager and he's got a chance to be a big league shortstop."
