Wichita Falls Wildcats News Release
After the first weekend without a game since the end of August, the Wildcats will go on the road again this weekend to face the Topeka Roadrunners on Friday and Saturday with batteries recharged. Both games will start at 7:05 pm from the Kansas Expocentre.
The Wildcats are looking to rebound from a tough road trip where the team played well but just couldn't quite get the victory in four games against Fairbanks and Wenatchee. Despite being down, the Wildcats battled hard through the whole 60 minutes of the game each night, and though the Wildcats lost twice to Wenatchee on the final weekend, they were within a goal with a minute remaining each night. "We didn't give up at all," head coach John Bowkus said. "We didn't play like a last place team. They didn't beat us so much as we just ran out of time." This weekend should see another hard battle by the Wildcats: the Roadrunners are in first place in the South division, just as Wenatchee is first in the West. The Wildcats have lost twice against Topeka this season by scores of 5-2 and 5-3.
In addition, this weekend's games mark the Wildcats' return to the local airwaves! Both games can be heard in Wichita Falls on 94.9 FM, KOLI "The Outlaw." If you can't make the trip up to Topeka, you can tune in on The Outlaw, or watch the game online via the B2 Networks.
Radio Show Tuesday
The Wildcats will be on the air once again tonight from Buffalo Wild Wings! Wildcats' head coach John Bowkus and assistant coach Mike Flanagan will spend some time talking to Wildcats' broadcaster Drew Pelto about the week off, games in Alaska and Washington, as well as what's upcoming with the trip to Topeka. The show starts at 7:30 pm and can be heard on 94.9 FM, KOLI, "The Outlaw."
Wildcats Alumni Update
While it's not the first time two former Wildcats have faced each other in a game at the college level, last Friday was possibly the first time that two former Wildcats faced each other in a Division 1 game where both scored! Bentley's Brett Hartung got the scoring started in Friday's game against Air Force with a first period goal, and in the third, Kyle Delaurell tied the game on a power play goal. The game ended in a 3-3 tie.
Northeastern's Kyle Kraemer scored his first of the season against Boston College on Saturday, November 7. Unfortunately for the Huskies, it was the only goal they would get as BC came away with the 5-1 victory.
Former Wildcats goalie Tyler Brigl had a weekend to remember between the pipes for the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. On Friday, he stopped all 22 shots he faced against Augsburg in a 3-0 victory, and on Saturday shut down 29 of 30 shooters in a 3-1 victory over Gustavus Adolphus.
Thomas Erlacher picked up his first collegiate points on Friday as University of Wisconsin-Superior beat Concordia 7-2. Erlacher scored twice and added an assist.
In the professional levels, Nick Klaren and Jack Wolgemuth are teammates once again. After playing for the Wildcats together, then again for University of Wisconsin-Stout, the blueliners are playing together again for the Mississippi Surge of the Southern Professional Hockey League. Each has two points so far on the season.
Chad Costello has started the season on a hot streak in the CHL. The IceRays forward has put up three goals and three assists in four games, including a three-point night against Odessa on Thursday, November 5.
Dan Sexton leads all ECHL rookies in scoring. Through 11 games as a member of the Bakersfield Condors, Sexton has scored 8 times, and added a helper 8 other times, for a total of 16 points. He is fourth among all skaters in scoring so far across the league.
At the ACHA level, Adam Krefski had a five-goal weekend as Lindenwood University swept a two-game series with Eastern Michigan by scores of 13-3 and 8-2. Lindenwood is currently the #1 ranked team in ACHA Division 1 hockey. Krefski is currently third on the team in scoring.
Michigan State sits atop the ACHA Division 2 Central rankings, thanks in large part to Zack Rourke. He leads the Spartans with 13 goals on the season and is second on the team with 19 points in 10 games.
Drew Harcharik is tied for sixth in the country in scoring for the University of Maryland-Baltimore County. This past weekend, he scored 5 goals in a 13-2 victory over Lafayette College, and picked up two assists in a 9-2 win over Temple. UMBC is ranked fourth in the Southeast Region of the ACHA's Division 2.
