(LANCASTER, CA) - Kene Martin rushed for 171 yards and three touchdowns as the Marauder's (5-3, 5-0) ground game ran LA Southwest (0-8, 0-5) under in 35-7 victory on Halloween Night at Marauder Stadium.Martin proved to be a one-man wrecking ball for AVC as he got the scoring started with a four-yard touchdown run with just under two minutes left in the first quarter. In the second, Martin took a handoff from Quarterback Josh Firm and outran two defenders to the corner of the end zone for a six yard score with eight minutes remaining in the first half. Martin became the first Marauder on the season to rush for three touchdowns as he took a fourth-quarter handoff between the hash marks for a 25 yard touchdown run.
The defense for AVC never let the Cougars from LA Southwest College gain any traction on offence. The Marauders held the Cougars to under 100 yards of total offence on 48 plays. LA Southwest could only muster 14 yards of offence in the second half against the best defense in the American Pacific Conference and 11th best in the state of California amongst 71 community colleges.
Firm kept the offence moving the ball through the air, the freshman out of Quartz Hill finished the night with 15 completions in 27 attempts for 234 yards.
Martin has rushed for over 100 yards in his last three games for AVC and leads the Marauders with 499 yards on 81 carries on the season.
The win for AVC sets up the big showdown game in the Pacific Division with LA Pierce who remained undefeated in conference play with their 45-28 victory over division rival LA Valley. Brahma quarterback Matt Wabby threw for three touchdowns and ran for another in the victory.
The winner of the November 7th game will claim at least a portion of the American Pacific Conference Title and own the tiebreak advantage for a trip to the post-season. AVC is seeking their third consecutive conference title after winning the Foothill Conference in 2007 and the American Pacific in 2008.
