Harrisburg Heads to Richmond for USL-2 Semifinals

The Harrisburg City Islanders are heading to Virginia to face the Richmond Kickers in the USL-2 Semifinals. As a result of regular season activity, the Islanders have earned the third seed in the playoffs with a record of 9-7-4 (31 points) while their opponent, Richmond (11-3-6, 39 points) is the second seed. The two teams will meet in the semifinals on Saturday August 22nd at the University of Richmond Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00pm.
This Saturday's match will be the fourth time this season that the Islanders and Kickers have faced off. In the first USL-2 match of the season, the Islanders went to Richmond where they tied 2-2. Interestingly, the two teams faced off in their first match of the season, and for one team, Saturday's match will end their season in the single elimination playoffs.
In their subsequent matches this season the Islanders fell to Richmond twice. First, on June 6th the Islanders received a 5-0 defeat on the road against Richmond. Then Richmond defeated Harrisburg 1-0 on City Island in July. Islander's head coach, Bill Becher says that the Isles, "look forward to the challenge, and certainly have something to prove on the road this Saturday in Richmond."
Tiyi Shipalane will be back in the Islander's blue after spending last week on loan to Major League Soccer's D.C. United. And, Islanders Geoff Bloes and David Schofield have been removed from the injured list.
The USL-2 post season officially begins this Wednesday, August 19th when the fourth and fifth seeds, Charlotte and Real Maryland play in the first round of playoffs. Wednesday's winner will take on Wilmington, the number one seed, in the semifinals. The winners this Saturday will play in the Championship on August 29th.
