Montreal Impact News Release

MIAMI, Florida - The Montreal Impact (6-8-5) and Miami FC (7-8-4) played to a 1-1 draw (halftime 1-0), Saturday, at FIU Stadium, in Miami.

Impact team captain Mauro Biello scored his first goal of the season at the 41st minute. Standing at the near post, eight meters from the goal, Biello headed a cross coming from the left flank from young midfielder Ciaran O'Brien, beating goalkeeper Pat Hannigan to his left, despite his diving effort.

Miami FC, which did not obtain any concrete occasion to score during the match, equalized in the last moments of stoppage time. Following a deep pass from the left flank, forward Alen Marcina fired a point blank shot that left no chance to Impact goalkeeper Srdjan Djekanovic.

"It's unfortunate to give away two points that way," declared head coach Marc Dos Santos. "It's a tie that is hard to swallow. It's difficult to accept because this is the match that we had to play on the road. We defended ourselves well and we did well on counterattack, but we were unable to score the second goal, despite a minimum of three scoring chances."

Montreal has nonetheless not lost in its last three matches on the road, after tying in Rochester and Austin.

Newcomer Ciaran O'Brien has already registered a fourth point this season in five matches.

Defender Cédric Joqueviel (thigh), as well as midfielders Stephen deRoux (face), Félix Brillant (knee) and Patrick Leduc (foot) did not join the team due to injuries.

Midfielder David Testo and defender Adam Braz each served a one-match suspension due to an accumulation of five cautions.

The Montreal Impact will play its next match against CA River Plate, first division Argentinean club, Tuesday August 4, at Saputo Stadium (7:30 pm, corussports.com, radio-canada.ca/sports, CKAC Sports, THE TEAM 990), in the 6th and final international match this summer in Montreal. Excellent tickets are still available through Admission (514-790-1245 / admission.com) or at the ticketing office of Saputo Stadium.
