Oregon Waves ties championship series 1-1 with win over Los Angeles Lightning

Published on July 27, 2009 under International Basketball League (IBL) News Release

Head coach Terrance Dickens of the Oregon Waves used a different substitution pattern from game 1-and it paid off down the stretch of game 2-as the Waves were able to hold off the Lightning to win by a single point. Coach Dickens plan was to not play his starters too much in the first three quarters-because Dickens knew that he needed a strong delivery down the stretch and he got just that; Robert Day scored 18 points in the third quarter and David Lucas and David Jackson came alive in the fourth quarter in what was-a complete team effort by the Wave. The Waves were not without their difficult moments as Robert Day fouled out with 4 minutes to go in the game and David Lucas fouled out with 2 minutes to go. Setting up the final play of the game, the Oregon Wave's Mike Johnson-hit two free throws with 15 second remaining to put the Wave up by two points with 15 seconds remaining; Darrick Martin dribbled to set up his own off hand jumper with 2 seconds left, off, and the Oregon Wave grabbed the rebound as time expired, to secure the win.

Game 3 of best of 3 series-Tuesday July 28th at 7:00p.m. at Gilbert Sports Arena, Cal Lutheran
