Force Sign Indiana State's Darcy Wood

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Force Owner and General Manager Tom Kleinman is happy to announce the signing of pitcher Darcy Wood for the 2009 season.

Wood, who is a 2009 graduate of Indiana State University, will add even more depth to an already stacked Philadelphia bullpen.

A native of Greenwood, Indiana Wood was one of the Sycamore's top pitchers throughout her career. In her final season at Indiana State, Wood recorded a team best 2.18 ERA. Within her team high 39 appearances and 199 1/3 innings pitched, Wood recorded 13 victories and 248 strikeouts. She capped off her career with the Sycamores by being named the Missouri Valley First Team All-Conference. Wood missed out on her 2008 season due to a medical redshirt.

In 2007 the Greenwood native was ranked 65th in the nation averaging 7.5 strikeouts per seven inning game. She was also finished in the top 100 in Division I Softball in saves with two. In the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) the right-hander ranked ninth with a 2.22 ERA, first in innings pitched with 248 2/3, and second in strikeouts with 266 (career best record). Overall she made 41 appearances in her junior season, and recoded a total of 23 strikeouts in a single game against Saint Louis which went into extra innings.

During her sophomore campaign, the former Indiana Miss Softball and Gatorade Player of the Year, earned All-MVC First Team honors, and was named Conference Pitcher of the week on two different occasions. Her 1.56 ERA was amongst the best on the team and in the conference, and also played a major part in her 21 win season. To date Wood still holds the record for most MVC Player of the Week honors than other player in Sycamore history with three.
