Final Showdown Game Set For Sunday
April 15, 2009 - Premier Basketball League (PBL) News Release
Chicago, IL - The Premier Basketball League (PBL) has announced that the League "Final Showdown Game" between the PBL Regular Season Champions, the Battle Creek Knights, and the Rochester RazorSharks will take place on Sunday, April 19, 2009 at 7:05 p.m.
This much anticipated match up with take place at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, NY. While the Battle Creek ownership group preferred to play the series in the 2 out of 3 format, they did agree to the deviation in format in consideration of the League's alliance with its television partners as well as its partners in China and Europe.
"As our owners understand, the PBL is a business and the business model must be dynamic," stated PBL Commissioner Tom Doyle. "The opportunity that has presented itself for the league to have the Championship game completed by Sunday, so that it can then be rebroadcast in China is enormous. While this decision may not be the most popular, it is in the best interests of the long term plans of the PBL and therefore must be done this way. To continue on past Sunday and accomplish what needs to be done for the betterment of the league made the 'Best 2 of 3' format impracticable, and not sound business. International sponsors will now be able to watch, in its entirety, the 'Final Showdown Game' enabling the PBL champion teams and league to continue to garner international exposure. We appreciate the Battle Creek owner's cooperation in this matter and the level of professionalism they bring to the PBL."
Fans here in the U.S. who cannot attend in person in Rochester can also view the game on @SportsTV network.
