Minnesota Swarm News Release
DENVER, CO - The Minnesota Swarm (5-6) ended its five game road trip with a 13-11 loss to the Colorado Mammoth (6-5) in front of 15,594 at the Pepsi Center. F Aaron Wilson (4-2=6) and F Sean Pollock (2-4=6) led the Swarm with six points and G Nick Patterson made 40 saves in the loss. F Jamie Shewchuk led the Mammoth with eight points (4-4=8) and G Curtis Palidwor made 31 saves in the victory.
Minnesota jumped out to an early 4-0 lead with goals from F Chad Culp, F Kevin Ross, Wilson and Pollock. Colorado replaced starting goalie Andrew Leyshon after giving up four goals on the first eight shots in just 9:06. The Mammoth responded in the final minutes of the first quarter as Shewchuk scored a goal and added an assist to cut the deficit to 4-2.
The Swarm extended its lead to 5-2 with Ross' second of the game at 1:14 of the second quarter, but the Mammoth again responded to take a 6-5 halftime lead. Shewchuk added a goal and two assists in the quarter and F Jed Prossner added Colorado's second power-play goal of the game.
After an early Colorado goal in the third, Wilson and Ross scored to tie the game at seven, midway through the third quarter. Minnesota was unable to siege the momentum though as penalty trouble began to cost the Swarm. Colorado scored four goals to end the quarter including three on the power-play to take a commanding lead heading into the fourth. F Chris Gill scored just seconds before F Joe Cinosky finished serving his penalty for roughing. Three minutes later F Chad Culp followed with a major penalty for elbowing, Shewchuk and Prossner each scored during the penalty to extend Colorado's lead to 11-7.
The Swarm, looking for its fourth consecutive victory, fought back in the final quarter as Wilson led the charge with two goals to tie the game at 11 with 6:54 remaining. Minnesota did not have an answer for Prossner and Shewchuk, however, as the duo scored at 8:51 and 13:20 to finish with the 13-11 victory.
Prossner finished second in scoring for Colorado with six points (4-2=6) and F Chris Gill also added five points (3-2=5). Ross finished with five points (3-2=5) for Minnesota who had its lowest scoring output in six games since acquiring Aaron Wilson on February 19th. The Swarm finished just 1-for-6 on the power-play while the Mammoth finished 5-for-8 on the night and out-shot the Swarm 54-47.
