
Swarm defeated by Philadelphia 13-12

PHILADELPHIA, pa - The Minnesota Swarm (2-5) was unable to end its losing streak as it fell for the fifth consecutive game, 13-12 to the Philadelphia Wings (5-3) Saturday night in front of 10,559 at the Wachovia Center. F Dan Marohl (1-5=6) led the Swarm with six points and Ryan Ward (3-2=5) added five as G Kevin Croswell made 39 saves in the loss. F Mat Giles (1-5=6) led all scorers with six points and F Drew Westervelt (2-3=5) added in five while G Brandon Miller made 39 saves in the win.
Minnesota was forced to play from behind again as it fell down 4-0 in the first quarter. Ryan Ward scored twice on the power-play and T Ryan Sharp added his second of the season to cut the deficit to 4-3 early in the second. Philadelphia responded with three consecutive goals including two from F Athan Iannucci and the Wings took an 8-4 lead at halftime.
The Swarm began its comeback effort after Philadelphia took a 9-4 lead just 19 seconds into the third quarter. Ward (3:42), Pollock (6:29) and F Andrew Watt (11:24) scored to cut the deficit to 9-7 heading into the final quarter. The teams combined for nine fourth quarter goals with the Swarm outscoring the Wings 5-4. F Brad Favero cut the deficit to 13-12 at 13:52 but the Swarm was unable to find the tying marker in the final minute and Philadelphia used its early lead to hold on for victory.
Minnesota will play its next five games on the road, starting next weekend with games at Toronto (2/27) and Buffalo (2/28). F Ryan Cousins and D Nick Inch will represent Minnesota at the 2009 NLL All-Star game, Saturday March 7th at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado.
