Patroons take Game Two of CBA finals

February 7, 2009 - Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1) News Release

ALBANY, NY - With their backs to the wall and a wild home crowd cheering them on, the Albany Patroons evened the CBA Finals series at one game a piece with a 111-109 overtime victory over the Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry. With the win, the series goes to the third and deciding game tomorrow night in the Washington Avenue Armory in Albany.

The second game started just like the first with DeAnthony Bowden scoring at will. Bowden put up 15 first quarter points as the Cavalry opened up a slight two-point advantage 27-25 at the end of the first quarter. The Cavalry opened up the lead to 10 with a 60-50 halftime lead. The Patroons battled back into the game and held a two-point advantage with seconds left before a pair of Eddie Smith free throws put the game into overtime. The Cavalry jumped out to a four-point lead but were not able to hold it, as Gabe Freeman hit two free throws with 25 seconds left to put the patrons up by two. The Cavalry were not able to get off a shot and the Patroons tied the series with an 11-109 victory in overtime.

Leading the charge for the hometown Patroons was Freeman with 31 points and 10 rebounds. Shawn Fountain had 21 points and a game high 8 assists, Harvey Thomas had 19 points and 10 rebounds. Local product Lucious Jordan had 17 points off the bench for the Patroons. Shawn Daniels had a team high 29 points for the Cavalry. Bowden had 20 points and Brandon Dean had 23 points for the Cavalry.

"Another great game by two evenly matched teams," said CBA Director of Scouting Mark Argenziano. "Gabe Freeman had an outstanding game and Lucious Jordan really stepped up tonight when his team needed it. Shawn Daniels showed that he still is unstoppable in the post and DeAnthony Bowden can score at will. Game Three should be one for the ages."
