(Dublin, CA. October 8, 2008) Led by the Orange County Flyers and the St. George Roadrunners, Golden Baseball League teams placed players throughout the prestigious All-Indy and Top Indy Prospects lists announced yesterday by Baseball America. GBL Players took the following honors: Indy Player of the Year, 3 of the 14 All-Indy First Team spots, 1 All-Indy 2nd Team Selection, and 6 of the 22 Top Prospects picks.

Independent League Player of the Year went to OF Patrick Breen of the Orange County Flyers as he was also one of the three GBL Players named to the All-Indy First Team list of just 14. Orange County Flyer Shortstop Jermy Acey and Chico Starting Pitcher Trevor Caughey were the other two to receive First-Team honors. St. George Roadrunner OF Ryan Stevenson was a Second-Team selection. The GBL tied the Atlantic League, the Can-Am League, and the Frontier League with three first team selections while the Northern League and American Association had one selection each and the United League and Continental League had zero.

Baseball America also produced three lists of Top Indy Prospects. The three lists totaled 22 players, six of those were GBL players, followed by the United League with five, then three for the Frontier, Continental, and American Association, and finishing up with two for the Atlantic League, one for the Can-Am League, and zero for the Northern League. GBL selections of top prospects included St. George Roadrunners 1B/OF as the NO. 2 unsigned Top Prospect and his teammate INF Greg Lemon as NO. 10 on that list. On the Top 8 Signed Prospects List, GBL players included Chico Pitcher Derrick Lowe who was signed by Boston and Edmonton Pitcher Robert Cuello who was also signed by Boston. In addition, Orange County OF Patrick Breen and Chico Pitcher Trevor Caughey were the first two on the Other Prospects List.

"It's exciting to see the recognition of the Golden Baseball League players in these year end awards," said GBL Commissioner Kevin Outcalt. "It reflects the continually increasing attractiveness of GBL teams for top players to showcase their skills. I expect most of these players named to be signed by MLB organizations and join the 19 players who were acquired by big league clubs during the year from the GBL as they advance their careers."
