Vancouver Whitecaps News Release

VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today that tickets for the United Soccer Leagues First Division (USL-1) Championship Final between the Whitecaps and Puerto Rico Islanders are now available at all Ticketmaster outlets, online at ticketmaster.ca, and by phone at 604.280.4400. Single match tickets start at $21, and for information on discounted group tickets, call the Whitecaps office at 604.669.WAVE (9283) or visit whitecapsfc.com. The final will kick off at 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 12, at Swangard Stadium.

As the second seed, the Whitecaps road to the final included a 5-4 quarterfinal series win over the seventh-seeded Minnesota Thunder and a dramatic 2-1 semifinal series victory over Canadian arch-rivals and third-seeded Montreal Impact. This will be the Whitecaps second trip to the USL-1 finals, and the first time they have hosted the championship match. In 2006, the Whitecaps became the first team in league history to win the championship on the road when they defeated the Rochester Rhinos 3-0 at PAETEC Park. The Whitecaps joined USL-1 (then known as the American Professional Soccer League) in 1993 and have only missed the playoffs on two occasions in 1994 and 1996.

The Puerto Rico Islanders, won the Commissioner's Cup with the best regular season record, and as a result, received a first-round bye in the playoffs. This past weekend they defeated fourth-seeded Rochester 3-2 on aggregate in their semifinal series. This will be Puerto Rico's first appearance in the league final having joined the USL-1 in 2004.

This season, the Whitecaps set a new modern-team franchise record for total attendance, which included six sellouts at Swangard. As a result, fans are advised to purchase their tickets in advance. For additional information on Whitecaps playoff tickets, call the Whitecaps office at 604.669.WAVE (9283) or visit whitecapsfc.com.
