Edmonton Cracker Cat RHP Robert Coello Purchased by Boston Red Sox

(Dublin, CA. September 17, 2008) The Golden Baseball League (GBL) announced today that Edmonton Cracker Cat reliever Robert Coello has had his contract purchased by the Boston Red Sox.

Coello, 23, is a 6-4, 215 pound right-handed relief pitcher originally drafted in the 20th round out of Oskaloosa-Walton Community College by the Cincinnati Reds in 2004 as a catcher. He was converted to a pitcher and acquired by the Los Angeles Angels for the 2007 season where he was sent to the Arizona Rookie League and compiled a 1-1 record with a stingy 1.37 E.R.A in 20 appearances as he struck out 26 and walked only 7. Released by the Angels, he was quickly signed by the Calgary Vipers and pitched for the first month of the GBL season out of their bullpen before being dealt to the Edmonton Cracker Cats. He was dominant for Edmonton as he appeared in 20 games, posted a record of 2-0 and an E.R.A of 1.78 while allowing an opponents batting average of just .191.

"It's good to see Rob getting a chance with Boston," said Brent Bowers, Manager of the Edmonton Cracker Cats. "He was key to our second half North Division title and was a pleasure to have on the team. He should do very well in the Red Sox organization."

Coello is the 19th GBL player to be acquired by a major league organization in 2008.
