Beaumont, Texas Added As Expansion Team
Published on August 11, 2008 under American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that Beaumont, Texas will be added to its expansion teams for the upcoming season starting in December. And according to Joe Newman, ABA CEO, "We are very pleased and proud to have this team in the ABA. Formerly the RGV Silverados of the CBA, this is an outstanding organization with great leadership and excellent management. They will be a great addition to their division and to the ABA."
The team is owned by Jordan J. Maswoswe, BSc., PharmD, a pharmacist for the last twenty-six years who has spent the last twenty years in senior pharmacy mangement position. He graduated from Northeastern University in Boston, Massashusetts with a bachelor of science (BSc) degree in pharmacy and received a post-baccalaureate doctor of pharmacy (Pharm.D) degree in 1992 from Texas Southern University.
"Since migrating to the United States in the mid-1970's, I have been an avid basketball fanatic harkening back to the days of the Celtic's backcourt of Jo-Jo White and Charlie Scott; the incredibly talented but unfulfilled injury-plagued story of Ernie "D" of Providence and the indiscretions of one of the original ABA bad boys, Marvin "Bad-News" Barnes," stated Dr. Maswoskwe. "My first relationship was with the Boston Celtics and I came to love the original Big-Three (Bird, McHale and The Chief)."
After moving from Boston to Houston in 1982, Dr. Maswoske continued to enjoy the exploits of the Houston Cougars' Phi Slama Jama and the incredible Houston Rocket Championships led by the Dream, Hakeem Olajuwon. "So, it was natural for me to ultimately own a professional team, and I was able to acquire the RGV Silverados," added Dr. Maswoske. "We finished well with 8 wins out of our last 10 games," and have decided to join the ABA and to move the team to Beaumont, Texas. We will play in the first class Ford Arena there, a great venue."
Most of Dr. Maswoske's professional life was spent in the Houston, world-renowned Texas Medical Center. His areas of expertise are infectious disease, pharmacy cost-savings, administration, total parental nutrition (TPN) and all facets of pharmacy consultation. In addition to being a corporate consultant, Dr. Maswoswe also owns retail pharmacies in the Rio Grand Valley and Houston. Whether it is owning a basketball team or pharmacies, Dr. Maswoswe brings passion to all his endeavors. Additional details about the team will be forthcoming.
