Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LANCASTER, CA) -The first half champion Lancaster JetHawks, Class A Affiliate of the World Champion Boston Red Sox, known around the baseball world for their relationship with the Antelope Valley aerospace industry, will host its fifth annual Aerospace Appreciation Weekend at Clear Channel Stadium this weekend as the JetHawks play a six-game homestand Tuesday-Sunday against the Bakersfield Blaze and the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. Aerospace Appreciation Weekend, presented by Edwards Federal Credit Union, has become famous in both the baseball and aviation industries for the highly collectible "Pioneers of Aerospace" bobblehead dolls.
The festivities for Aerospace Appreciation Weekend begin Friday night with the pre-game JetHawks Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony before the 7:00 PM game against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, a farm club of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The JetHawks will induct 2005 California League All-Star Miguel Montero of the Arizona Diamondbacks, 2006 triple crown threat Mark Reynolds of the Diamondbacks, California Fall League MVP and Lancaster Stealth leader Brandon Inge of the Detroit Tigers, and former Antelope Valley College head coach and current Baltimore Orioles manager Dave Trembley. Each of the honorees will be part of the ceremony via the JetHawks video board and festivities are scheduled to begin approximately ½-hour before gametime at Clear Channel Stadium. The night concludes with the final Friday Night Fireworks spectacular of the season, presented by Edwards Federal Credit Union.
This year's Aerospace Appreciation Weekend Honoree, Bill Dana, has a long and important association with the local aerospace industry. Dana, who is well-known as a test pilot on the famed X-15 program, where he teamed with fellow test pilot Neil Armstrong, is scheduled to be in attendance on Saturday as the JetHawks present a special video tribute to his amazing career. In addition, Dana's son will throw the ceremonial first pitch and NASA Dryden will punctuate the pre-game festivities with a jet aircraft flyover. The JetHawks will be giving away a bobblehead doll in the likeness of Dana to the first 1,000 fans in attendance.
Beginning on Tuesday, the JetHawks popular weekday promotions will greet fans as the Bakersfield Blaze, a Texas Rangers affiliate, make their final regular season visit to Lancaster this season. The series starts with Tumbleweed Tuesday, offering Reserve Section tickets for $1.50 if ordered by Monday afternoon. Weight Loss Wednesday features special health-conscious menu items and the opportunity to take a walk on the warning track before the game. A lucky fan will have a one in four chance to win $1,000 cash on Thousand Dollar Thursday presented by Beaven Insurance. In addition, the final Cheers Buck Beers presented by Coach's Sports Bar and Grill will feature domestic draught beer for just $1 through the sixth inning.
Individual game tickets for all JetHawks home games, including playoff games, are available in person at the JetHawks Box Office Monday - Friday from 10 AM - 5 PM or Saturdays from 10 AM - 3 PM. More information can be found on-line at www.JetHawks.com.
