Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(SAN BERNARDINO, CA) - The Inland Empire 66ers got an assist from the Los Angeles Dodgers Saturday night in their series finale with the Lancaster JetHawks. Jason Schmidt, making likely his final rehab appearance with the 66ers, combined with regular starter Cody White to hold the JetHawks to just six hits. The teams split the series, with the JetHawks finishing the road trip 4-3. Lancaster falls to second place, one game behind Lake Elsinore with 14 games left in the first half.

Inland Empire mounted several early threats. They loaded the bases in the first inning with no one out, but a diving catch by right fielder Josh Reddick led to a double play that kept the JetHawks out of trouble. The 66ers then got to JetHawks starter Brian Steinocher in the second inning to take a lead they would not relinquish.

The JetHawks cut the deficit to one run in the third inning on a Jason Place triple and a sacrifice fly by Jorge Jimenez. They got to within one again in the fourth inning when Jimenez was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. However, the 66ers with two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to pull away.

Jimenez drove in two runs in the loss. Josh Reddick tied for the league lead with his sixth triple and extended his hit streak to eight straight games. Argenis Diaz was the only JetHawks player with more than one hit as he knocked two singles.

After a day off Sunday, the JetHawks will open up an eight-game homestand Monday night against Rancho Cucamonga.
