Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(VISALIA, CA) - Another night in Visalia, another close game getting away from the JetHawks. The Oaks used an error to score the tying run in the sixth inning, then got a RBI double in the seventh to score the winning run as Visalia defeated the Lancaster JetHawks 4-3. Lancaster falls to a season-high seven games below .500, but remains only two games out of first place.
Brian Steinocher pitched very well in his first start of the season. His only miscue was a two-run homer allowed to Oaks first baseman Brad Miller, putting Visalia ahead in the second inning. However, by the time Steinocher checked out of the game through five innings, he had a chance to win, thanks to some big hits.
The Lancaster scoring started with a Daniel Nava solo home run in the third inning. Nava played a part of the next run in the fourth. His single moved Chih-Hsien Chiang to third base, setting up an infield RBI single by Argenis Diaz. When Lars Anderson smashed a solo homer in the fifth, it looked like Steinocher would be the winning pitcher in his first start.
Defense, however, hurt the JetHawks in the sixth. After Gerardo Parra hit a lead-off double, Chiang dropped a pop fly down the right field line. The play allowed Parra to get to third base. He then scored on a sacrifice fly to tie the game. The Oaks got the game-winning hit in the seventh inning when Tyler Jones doubled home Miller.
Nava continued his strong play for the JetHawks. Along with his fourth home run of the year, Nava added two singles and has now hit safely in eight straight games. Anderson, Chiang, and Zak Farkes each had two hits in the loss.
