MAHL Works To Open Border To Canadian Players
Published on May 8, 2008 under Mid-Atlantic Hockey League (MAHL) News Release
CANTON, OH - The Mid-Atlantic Hockey League completed its spring meetings this past week and developed a comprehensive approach to opening its rosters to Canadian players.
Andrew Haines, president and founder of the MAHL was pleased at the conclusion of the spring meetings.
"The team owners and the league offices created a reasonable process for attracting Canadian talent to the MAHL and our teams," said Haines.
The unanimous decision by the team owners and league officials to pursue Canadian players will permit up to eight Canadians per team roster.
To address the MAHL's immigration status, a law firm in Cleveland, OH has been retained to pursue MAHL certification as an approved league.
Don Lewis, general manager of the Lake Erie Vikings, was equally impressed by the decisions from the meetings saying, "The MAHL will have a larger talent pool to draw from and one that will certainly bring quality hockey to our fans."
Additional information will be made available as progress is made on the MAHL immigration status.
