ABA to return to Hollywood next season

Published on March 16, 2008 under American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release

Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that it would return to Hollywood CA next season with a team owned by Providence Films, a Los Angeles-based entertainment studio. Providence is involved in motion picture production, television production, music video production, online production and home video acquisition and distribution. According to Joe Newman, ABA CEO, "This is the second of two teams that will be owned by Providence next season, the other being Phoenix which was announced earlier. Xavier Mitchell is 'all entertainment' with a background that includes work with Boyz to Men, Adina Howard, MC Hammer, Ice Cube, TLC and others. He has just released his latest film, "Fathers of the Sport." We have confidence that he will turn the new HOLLYWOOD SHOWSTOPPERS into a major sports/entertainment success. We are very pleased to be back in Hollywood."

"Quite honestly, I have not had the time to devote my full attention to our two new ABA teams," stated Mitchell. "We were so involved with the premiere of "Fathers of the Sport." But now that the move has been launched, we can concentrate on the HOLLYWOOD SHOWSTOPPERS and the PHOENIX FURY and wil make them both outstanding teams in this great league. We are looking forward to competing with San Diego, Orange County, Maywood, Long Beach, Fresno, Las Vegas and the other west teams. Not only will we be very competitive on the floor, but the events themselves will be as "show biz" as Will Ferrell's movie, Semi-Pro."
